By any chance, does this gibberish begin with

Craziest thing: the files I had trouble printing about a week ago now print without complaint. The few pages of gibberish I still have each contain 2 or 3 lines of mathematical/scientific/etc symbols, much like I think I remember seeing years ago trying to print a PostScript file to a non

Re: Tiger . . .are you guys experiencing bugs too???
I originally did an installation over 10.3.9. Then problems arose.
Safari 2.0 would not work.
Then I backed up my files to an external drive, and performed a clean installation of Tiger.
Other problems arose:
1. Freezes- I was getting mouse/keyboard freezes. I attempted to solve the problem by going to System Preferences/Security and turning all features to the maximum. Sign in required after wakeup. That seemed to solve the problem.
But a freeze happened again after 2 days.
2. Terminal- I use a program called Sigmachess/Hiarcs 9.6. I have a registered
product for both Sigmachess and Hiarcs. Tiger would not recognize my licensed
code. The Terminal would not perform code checks.
3. Printing_ My HP 2355: HP indicated that Printers should work with Tiger with no new drivers. Problem: HP setup could not locate my printer. The Printer will print but takes a long time.
4. Preview- When I attempt to print what I have in PDF and through Preview I get a crash.
5. Norton's Firewall and Virus Checker: Apple should have waited till Symantec came out with new products for Tiger before introducing Tiger.
Running a computer with a defunct Virus checker is dangerous.
The Firewall is not working well either. Apple should have told all the manufacterers, Brickhouse, Intego, and all the others as well Symantec to make products or upgrades for Tiger prior to introducing the product.
6. If you are having Safari 2.0 problems by going to Tiger, consider a clean installation. Someone on a blog did indicate that if 2.0 is not functioning, make a copy of 1.2.4, rename, and place next to 2.0. I would suggest, as above, back up your files, and do a clean installation. Probably, guessing, a 10.3.9 Security feature was interfering with Tiger's Safari 2.0.
7. Microsoft- Office for 2004: Appears to be working fine, although I have not tried printing.
8. Safari- Back up. In the HELP feature Apple should indicate how to back up Safari so you can still use your original bookmarks, when you do a clean installation.
9. Virtual PC for Macintosh- Appears to be working fine. I use the product strictly for chess, and chess downloads. I tried a Jewish Calendar download and it was awful in printing.
10. All the complaints, mine and other readers should be sent to Apple for a
10.4.x bug fix.
For the above reason I rated Tiger a 2 out of 10 on Amazon.com's product comments.

Tiger was available to ADC members for a couple of months before the debut. Perhaps Symantec would have done well to test its products then.
And I'll say the same to m-audio. I want a working Sonica!

If you get tons or airport connections where apps tell u to use "Network Diagnostics", ignoe it. If you can, hook up using ethernet, or get an airport express and hook up to it using ethernet.
Oh yeah, and once that's done, turn off your airport (in the menubar!).
I sometimes get errors with Safari, when I try to use RSS, it will crash. And once QuickTime gave me a Kernel Parnic (For a long time I thought it was spelled colonel
). But hey, Errors are fine as long as they don't start deleting things...
Hope this helps...
(Oh yeah delete all your keychains... I heard that helps the airport!)

I expect a flurry of posting in MiniThink, followed by a unceremonious journey to BigBrother.

Still experiencing sleep issues . . .and it's really scary when I return to my computer after an hour or two to find the fans going great guns and the computer completely frozen.
Is no one else experiencing this???
. . .just can't believe a clean install would have been necessary for a computer that's barely 2 month's old

I did a clean install on my G4 Dual 1.25 and the same thing still happens to me.

No go for me with a Clean Install with the Migration Manager. Four failed Clean Installs on my dual 2 ghz. Migration Manager crashes everytime, about 75% of the way through. I'm highly uninterested in re-installing every piece of software I own, so I'm back in Panther. I'll wait and see if Apple can get it together.
I ran the Upgrade option on my much less complicated PB G4 1.5 ghz. No probs there, although some programs seem to run a little slower, particularly Firefox 1.4 scrolling, and <cough> Burning Monkey Solitaire. Other than Dashboard, I don't really get much out of Tiger.

I got a speed boot with 10.4, but now with this update I get the BBOD more often than not. Then everything is fine, but the BBOD seems to be more noticeable with this update.

Re: Tiger . . .are you guys experiencing bugs too???
My version of Tiger was pre-installed on my new PowerMac. The only problems I've had so far are (as posted earlier) spotlight and Finder won't find hidden files, and I had one instance where the dock froze. I killed it, but I couldn't launch it from the Finder (giving an error), then it froze while trying to restart. Other then that, it's been pretty solid. Granted, I haven't tried printing lately. Scanner works, though, as does all my software so far.

Re: Tiger . . .are you guys experiencing bugs too???
I did an upgrade over 10.3.9 on my dual 867 mdd. The printing went bad. So far I have reset the Printing Services (removes all installed printers) and re-installed my Samsung laser printer that is connected to the USB on an AirPort Extreme. Now that printer is working but a Brother MFC420CN that worked perfect on the network in 10.3 is unavailable in 10.4 even though the Brother Dashboard widget tells me the ink levels in the tanks. I know how much ink is available but Print Center cannot find the printer.
The Brother is still working perfect on the network when I print from my iBook 700 (10.3.9) using AirPort and Rendezvous, I mean Bonjour, merde.

Now that I've abandoned the purist Erase and Install/Migration Assistant option for Archive and Install, I've at last installed Tiger. Migration Assistant didn't cut it.
I'll keep an eye on my G5 now for sure. So far, so good.
