Our culture isn't classist any more? That's news to me. I'd say we're conformist too.
Of course, hardly anyone seems to be showing up to see the Pope.

The Catholic Church is not a secret society. Our beliefs are wide open, our hierarchy made known. You can go to mass whenever you want it has nearly a billion active members and nearly two billion people are considered members (as all baptized Christians are seen as Catholics). Nothing really 'secret' about it.
The Freemasons are different entirely, designed to be revealing as one progresses through the ranks.

Re: freemasonry!
Jack Chick Publications usually has a wealth of religious right spin on many issues including freemasonry (and from what I have been reading at the online tract, there is very little "free" anything in freemasonry)...

Information on Masonry
The most complete source of information on Masonry is Masonry, Beyond the Light by William Schnoebelen.
Additional information on Masonry:
Can a Christian be a mason?
Here are actual case histories of what happened when a Christian tried to be on both sides of this fence.
Who is Masonry's God?
Many think Masonry is a Christian organization. But here is why no Christian should get involved with it.
The witchcraft side of Masonry.
The Lodge has always attracted sorcerers. The list of occultists and witches in the last century who were Freemasons reads like a Who's Who of 20th century occultism.
Masonry and the "Curse of Baphomet." (online tract)
A Mason discovers the truth behind his lodge.

And what is all this nonsense about Shriners "raising" money for crippled and burned children? It seems to me that these guys are pretty adept about panhandling spare money while standing within lanes of moving traffic...

I've been in one as well, to take a photograph for a newspaper about some ~$200 scholarship or something.
I have to admit, the place was creepy.

From what I can tell, either way, you're screwed. Bad people are punished by society's laws, and good people are punished by Murphy's Law.

Interesting read on Freemasonry...
I am a Freemason... have been for awhile, participate regularly and would be glad to answer the question why I became one... I beleive in the phillosophy and I want to be a better man.
Hope this helps

Perhaps you could be more specific with the question then? What answer are you looking for?
