Revolution's Revolution Revealed (?)

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/Kamedak/rev_controller1.jpg

Revolutionary Sender/Controller - A fully *touchable* keyboard.

It has NO BUTTONS at all. The sender/controller and gamer both interact with each other through movement... this implies that not only is the game controlled through the movement of the player but also the controller itself gives some form of feedback.

The controller has built in sensors that can tell the distance between the player, and console. It has a built in microphone, and can determine its position. (So turning the controller around and moving it in an direction would be a form of controlling)

Re: Revolution's Revolution Revealed (?)

That sounds really weird. But it also sounds like it could make for a viable alternative to the mouse and keyboard for fps games.

Re: Revolution's Revolution Revealed (?)

How? You'd have to literally be walking and tilting to simulate two sticks at one time. Plus, what about small movements-- say my dog comes over and sits on my lap. I jump up to move....is the game gonna be screwed up?

I'm interested to see what nintendo has come up with.

Re: Revolution's Revolution Revealed (?)

That... could rock. Could suck, too, but could rock. I just wonder how it'll be used with the archived games. If it has rudimentary display capabilities, so it can display "buttons" for different controller types, that might drive the cost way up, making multiple controllers mighty 'spensive.

That having been said, I totally dig the idea of a 3D-space controller.

Re: Revolution's Revolution Revealed (?)

Can a dog come up and sit on your lap without screwing you up with the current controllers? I say this is viable because it is very similar to a mouse in that it is a plastic object that you move to manipulate things. It is obvious that it is going to have more than 1 input so I doubt you have to worry about differentiating between walking (I highly doubt they would make it so you had to walk forward to walk in game since there is a finite space between you and your tv) and looking...such as...a walk "button" similar to the w key.

Re: Revolution's Revolution Revealed (?)

Yeah, it can, but if I get up suddenly, my game is not gonna be disrupted. What if I drop the controller? Yes, I can now, but it is unlikely the game will be affected if I just drop it. If I drop this one, maybe my plane would be sent into freefall or something.

And according to that, there aren't any  "buttons" at all. Could you maybe rub the controller in a place for buttons?

Re: Revolution's Revolution Revealed (?)

It is probably like how apple sells mice without a "button." I am betting some sort of touch sensitive thing and maybe it uses gestures. I doubt they would leave it without a "button" like input.

Re: Revolution's Revolution Revealed (?)

I highly doubt that Nintendo would pour hundreds of millions of dollars and several years into an input device that doesn't logically consider the perils of usage, Kev. Whatever it is, it won't be interrupted by normal in-the-field usage.

Re: Revolution's Revolution Revealed (?)

Well, it's not like they can magically come up with a solution to the whole "motion" problem.

I think this might be fake  now.

Re: Revolution's Revolution Revealed (?)

You know there is a pause button. Heck they could probably design it so that when you let go of the controller it pauses the game. The technology does exist. The question is though, if they are actually going to do this.

Probably. But who knows. Plus, it's fun to speculate. With Nintendo, that's usually all we get to do. sad

Re: Revolution's Revolution Revealed (?)

Yeah. But it is still fun to talk about if it is possible or not, way more fun than trying to take numbers and decide which console will kill all the others and send the companies into bankruptcy. lol

What if you just like tech and don't care teh winnah is, or if there is one? I don't hope or even expect anyone to go out of business as a result of these consoles- certainly not Sony or MS, and I expect Nintendo will find a market.

I'd hedge my bet on one of the first two before the latter (console business only of course).

What?

Open Photoshop, cut the sides off a Genesis controller, remove the buttons and add cool blue highlights and you have yourself a revolution controller.

What about Nintendo just giving us a frikkin controller that plain ole WORKS like everyone elses? Someone PLEASE tell me why they insist on reinventing the wheel with EVERY console release? Can they not just focus on THE GAMES and GETTING DEVELOPERS on BOARD???

What exactly did they "re-invent" in the gamecube?  Other then good video games?

Ever noticed the unique button layout of the GC controller?

Yes I have noticed that the xbox, ps2, gc, dreamcast, n64, ps1, genesis, snes... don't all use the same control. Go figure.
