Oh yeah, someone should post a screenshot of Safari's RSS sheet.

Except for the brushed metal, it's not too much like Safari.

The main Safari-like part is the RSS interface. It's an almost exact rip-off, down to the wording in the sidebar.

Yeah, kinda looks like when people who don't know better rearrange their toolbars & menubars in MS Office apps, so nothings where it should be and you can't find anything. Good to see MS putting so much effort into a slick UI. And, ooh, new icons? Ah no, my bad.

Re: Redmonds New web browser IEX 7.0.......wich looks alot like Safari!
Safari's RSS. At least they can try to be a bit obscure by putting the sidebar on the left hand side as they'd done so in other MS apps.
But Finder Sidebar and Mail (Tiger) Sidebar justify this layout copying, methinks.

Not at all. I have tried standalone RSS thingies and a couple of browsers with RSS thingies. The standalone thingies were just in the way. OmniWeb implements RSS in a usable way but Safari just makes RSS a nuisance.
Fortunately it is easy to just ignore RSS altogether, on the Mac, for now. Somehow I doubt Longhorn will allow that option.

That makes very little sense.
Tiger Server, not so bad now. Automator, however, still sucks.

did they really have to take the brushed metal look? I mean, come on. I swear, if Apple made a PINK colored OS. MS would use Hot Pink and call it different..

Yeah, I suppose. Anyhoo, as it stands now I just ignore RSS and it doesn't hassle me. It is not an essential part of OS X or the UI experience and it is quite possible to get by without ever thinking about RSS.
But MicroSoft has been making noise about "RSS everywhere", whatever that means. MicroSoft's core competency is bad ideas, poorly implemented so I choose to assume the entire Longhorn OS and UI will be RSS powered, somehow. NTFS/RSS, Windows Explorer RSS, Word RSS, etc. Basically, all interaction with Longhorn and MS apps will happen via RSS feeds. That's where I want MicroSoft to go.

RSS is just an XML text file, much like OS X's Preference files (.plist), Keynote documents, etc. The sole idea behind RSS is this: find sites you really like, sites you tend to visit pretty regularly, subscribe to their feed, and when there is new content on one of those sites the feed will get get a little checkmark or whatever your RSS reader does. Click on a feed marked as updated, and you'll see a simple list of titles and descriptions of the articles on a site. If a title catches your interest as your skimming through, read the description and the click the link to read the full article. Notifications of updates to sites you like so that you don't have to check all those sites manually, that's basically all RSS is. It's such a simple concept.

I agree, RSS seems like as simple concept. And when it is implemented properly it works reasonably well. OmniWeb does a nice job. Safari makes RSS feel like an obstacle, at least to me. So I don't use RSS.
Back to my main point - Based on my (admittedly limited) experience with Windows over the past dozen years, I am incapable of believing MicroSoft will implement RSS in a way that does not make the entire Longhorn experience painful and insulting, assuming they really do mean "RSS Everywhere". And what of the flood of new exploits IEX7 will present? That should be an interesting show.
