OS X forum merger

OS X General and tips have merged into one forum, with OS X troubleshooting merging up into Balloon Help. There may be a slight moderator reshuffle between them, too.
For now, I think this forum is best served as a general discussion forum for OS X. Any problems/issues should preferably be posted in Balloon Help.

Nice work.  It's nice to see some of the clutter get streamlined.

Re: OS X forum merger

I think you should've kept the "MAC OS X Troubleshooting"  and ditched "Balloon Help"

Re: OS X forum merger

so that's where the troubleshooting forum went!  had me worried.  kinda pointless dont u think?  considering people use this forum for troubleshooting already.  now this one will just be more crowded.  stupid idea.  no offense.

Re: OS X forum merger

Balloon Help was the original troubleshooting forum. As OS X moves to the mainstream, it only makes sense that Balloon and OS X Troubleshooting would merge (although now that I think of it OS X has the Help Center, not Balloon Help as OS 9 and earlier did).

Maybe we should rename it: "You Need Help". big_smile

Re: OS X forum merger

I'll repeat what I said on another discussion of this:  Balloon Help is in the wrong category.  it's stuck in the middle of a bunch of opinion-based forums, not the place I would go looking for actual help.  and I think it'sunclear where to post questions about OSX issues: OSX or Balloon Help.
I appreciate the work done to streamline the forums.

Re: OS X forum merger

"Balloon Help" harkens back to the 'ol OS days.  Posting an OS X help questions just feels wrong. Plus a troubleshooting forum should be kept under the general X forum.  Anyone who been needing help with the old OS has been posting under OS 9 anyway...

Re: OS X forum merger

I agree the positioning could be better. As for the antiquity of the title, consider it a silent demonstration against the poor quality of OS X's help system.

Re: OS X forum merger

OS X's help system IS horrible... but those balloons were amusing for about the first 5 minutes and then they became annoying, far worse than the dreaded Microsoft Paperclip.

As such, I find it really hard to bring myself to enter that area of the forum.

Maybe I should seek psychiatric help... ala "You Need Help"

Re: OS X forum merger

I'm cool with the merger and all, but perhaps you should get rid of the OSX Tips and Troubleshooting menu option on the forums main page.  When you select it, it tells you, "The forum you have selected does not exist."  lol

Forged in darkness from wheat harvested in hell's half acre. Baked by Beelzebub. Slathered with mayonnaise beaten from the evil eggs of dark chicken force-fed to dogs by the hands of a one eyed mad man. Cheese boiled from the rancid teat of fanged cow. Layered with 666 separate meats from an animal which has maggots for blood.

Re: OS X forum merger

not until reading this thread did i know that MAC OS X was not intended for troubleshooting.  there's something counter-intuitive about that.

Re: OS X forum merger

Isn't 'Aprocryphon' a little non-secular?  It also doesn't seem to be in any dictionary.  I know I know it's a word form of apocryphal, but it's still not in the dictionary.  I guess we have a little Biblical reference now in these forums.     big_smile

Re: OS X forum merger

Wehey, I didn't realise someone had noticed the title change. It's more a literary reference than a biblical one.

I should really remove this or put up a new announcement, since the merger was a while back now.

Maybe tomorrow.

I never found Balloon Help (on OS 9) to be helpful either.

Re: OS X forum merger

Damn, I could have sworn I unstickied this a year or so ago. Maybe that got undone in the crash.
