*ahem*
Have you read any other post in this thread?
In the first airing of [BABF19], "Behind The Laughter", the
narrator gave Springfield's location as northern Kentucky.
For the second and some later airings, this changed to
southern Missouri. But neither of these are admissible
locations for Springfield, for the many reasons listed later
in this document.

Re: So which state do the Simpsons live in?
I remember an episode where they went to florida and got arrested for killing an alligator, "spring break for ever," I think was the idea. They did some Cool Hand Luke jokes, then got sent home for some reason.
At the end of the episode, Homer had a map and x-ed off Florida, saying "we are now banned in 49 of the 50 united states." That would leave the one where they live, I assume, since they were there. Anybody got DVD screens?

They don't live in any specific state, people!

Re: So which state do the Simpsons live in?
This sums it up nicely:
Springfield is anywhere you want it to be. There is enough evidence in the hundreds of episodes of "The Simpsons to preclude Springfield's placement in any specific American state. There are so many geographical contradictions between episodes that it is impossible for Springfield to actually exist somewhere real.

Let us not forget the state flag waving early on when Burns was running for Gov.
Looks a lot like California's flag, I think it is.... except at the bottom, it reads "Not just another State"

Yes, but I think we have established that people have fun discussing it regardless.
Coincidentally enough I was thinking of this thread earlier today.

Springfield is fictional, they have rocky mountains around them, a desert to the west and an ocean to the east. And they're 2800 miles from Orland Florida or so.

Re: So which state do the Simpsons live in?
There was an episode in which Springfield was clearly shown to be in Kentucky. At the end of the episode, an extra producer was added, with the name Weernot F. Romky. Take out the punctuation.
"WEERNOTFROMKY."
"WEER NOT FROM KY."
"We're not from KY."

That very closely describes Portland, OR (Mountains/Desert/Ocean all near by), where I believe Groening is from.
Portland is apparently referenced heavily in the show.

Yeah, he definitely draws a lot from there.

Re: So which state do the Simpsons live in?
There is also an early issue of Simpsons Illustrated where someone wrote in and asked that question directly. The Reply: "In a state of Confusion. Thanks for asking."
