No. Unless you decide to take it to a perverse form of a statement.

People don't need to know a thing about the room they moderate. Even the job title is "moderator," not "discussion leader" or "forum expert." Shoot, I mod the programming room, but my experience with programming is limited to getting halfway through Hello World on a crippled PASCAL compiler back on System 7. I just don't answer questions about programming, that's what the forum members are for. I do however deal with the occasional spam, misplaced thread, or trolling that occurs. No need for expert status to be able to recognize spam or a troll.

It really is a rule that if you ask to be a mod, you can't be one. Donovan wasn't making that up.
As for the vacancy, Chris Fom and I both stepped up and we're co-modding the Rant Room.
There is no way in hell I would want to moderate (this is serious). I wouldn't want to be the judge over a forum and be accused of CENSORSHIP, etc.

There are more then enough forum vets here with a level head, and who won't be asking for the job - I don't think you'd have to apply.

Anyone who applies is immediately disqualified for the post. It's really only the people who wouldn't look for the power that are given consideration.
