Recovering a lost partition in OS X

I have an old partition, which is not mounting.

I've looked around the internet, but I'm still unfamiliar with the way OS X handles partitions and automount. Using pdisk's automount on /dev/rdisk0s7 or /dev/disk0s7  (it's the seventh partition) just gives me a world of errors.

How would I delete an old hidden partition, then format it to hfs+ and have it show up... WITHOUT reinitializing the whole disk?

Fire up Disk Utility. That help?

No, disk utility is of no help, unless I'm wanting to destroy all of the hard drive.

I've been able to manually mount the partition, but only as a temporary device, like when you  mount an image.
