Re: please review this site

It's not spam, he's asking for a design review.

This alternick is part of a project that I am doing. I registered with the email address1@appleconcepts.com. The other email address I am using is address2[AT]appleconcepts[DOT]com. I'm going to see at the end of the summer how much more spam address1 gets than address2. I need to get the two addresses out in the open a lot, and I figured using them on a forum account was a good way.

I think it needs more flashing and more movement.

...We are a web/Flash authoring software provider so I suppose:
(1) There should be eye-catching Flash/dynamic menu on main page to expose to visitors ability of our software.
(2) We use templates to make the website look professional.

It would be an excessively broad generalization to say that these two are always contradictory, but - as a rule of thumb - that's generally the case.

More bling == less professional. I'm not saying it's absolutely always the case in every possible instance, but you get the idea.

I can entirely see that you want to show off your own product. That's the point. The problem is that it looks like you may have gone a little too far. I think that the templates are fine, but things like the buzzing, vibrating menus (the flashing dot next to Home, for example) and the flickering, flashing banner (8th anniversary) are a wee bit overboard.

They don't look professional, they look evil. I honestly think they're trying to melt my brain.

Using the same scripts to show off your products is fine. Just consider toning them back a bit... like back to the pre-brain-melting stage. If they're subtler, you'll get people who notice it and say, "Wow. That was kinda cool." instead of people who say, "Aaargh! My brain! It's leaking out my nose!"

Short version, consider changing flickering/flashing yellow bits to a slower, throbbing pace. It still gets the point across, just without the law suits from all the epileptic surfers.

As a random internet-nobody, I agree with the above. Tone it down a bit and it'll look great.

Not a comment on the web design but:

Flash decompilers are pure evil.  Nothing like helping newbs rip flash websites so they can claim the design is their's for their "design company."

I didn't even know there was such a thing as a flash decompiler. blush

I agree though. There are more than enough resources for people to learn Flash. Ripping other sites teaches you everything you need to know about web design! big_smile

Well call me cynical but here we have a site that is done by some company in China selling web design software, that posts a review request on a web design forum and this person has just joined up with Macaddict this week and never posted here before. Sure I could be wrong, but this site looks like it's been around a while and seems a little fishy to me that all they want is a review.

Sadly that is the point of their lameass products.

What the world needs is more crap code/features added to websites by people who don't know what they are doing, they need to pay for a product to make a cheesy little widget.

----

If lacked integrity I could make an assload of money making form builder tools or table builder tools for all those "web designers" who lacking any basic coding knowledge.

That's odd, mine leaked out my ears.

Re: please review this site

of course we are really in need of help in website design.

we have received friendly advice from customers say we need to improve our design.and that's why we are here to post for getting your ideas about the site.

this part is web design n development and i dont think im spamming!

we are not a newborn company who may need to spread their web address everywhere and get people all over the world to visit, nor need we "spamming" here in website review section if we really want to attract customers!

search in google "sothink" you would find(if you think we are spammer forget it!) our products win  praises from users and software websites, maybe some product like decompiler you consider it evil but we just developed it for convienence of some designers to regain their source and for study ,we  never imply newbies to steal using it nor we wish that happens!

back to the point, our taget is to get comments n advice from you and get improved in our web layout and everthing.

i'll delete the thread as long as mod charges this to be a spam, im not here to start anything unhappy.
n thats it.

Actually do a search for "sothink.com" and you find many examples of development forum spamming.

The list goes on.
Especially interesting is the use of redirect urls.  "campaigns/forumdecompiler.php3" and the like.  Spam.  And lots of it.

Re: please review this site

Right, but I'd say it's on the line. Technically, they're not doing anything wrong. They are doing the right thing, but for the wrong reasons. If I were a mod, I wouldn't be able to lock it because of the fact that there are dozens of other "Site Review" topics, and in the .0000000001 chance that this person might return, it would seem sort of unfair for it to be locked. And we all know how worried the Powers That Be are about lawsuits... if the poster happened to be Jewish, or black, or some other minority, they could sue for discrimination...

They are not doing the right thing for the wrong reasons. They are just here to push their software. What they are doing is just getting you to go to their site by fooloing you into thinking you are giving a site review. Do you believe all the SPAM that you get in your email box is the right thing for the wrong reasons? Half the subject lines in email messages have nothing to do with the content. This, in my opinion and Scott too, is just SPAM. They don't care about the site and how it looks, (well maybe they do but that's not the reason they are here). As Scott pointed out, the site is for Windows products, do they use Macs even? The code is definitely naff too. The pushing of their products on the forums that Scott links to is indicative of their behaviour and to suggest they are here for the right thing is possibly a little naive, as is the remark about minorities and lawsuits.

Spam or not-spam aside (smells like spam to me, if anyone cares)...

Aqua Man wrote:

They can be useful from time to time. I've had several experiences where a client wants to change something in a Flash file, but they don't have the original FLA for whatever reason. So the options lie in either a) trashing the Flash altogether b) leaving it as is or c) creating it from scratch. Decompilers can save some time, but I've also found they don't work that well. Piracy is piracy. I can pirate a site with Photoshop and Safari, but it doesn't mean that these pieces of software are pure evil.
