Grr Ichat vs Adium
grr! ok i have a dilemma...
I love adium b/c its so customizable and i love the buddy list and all the features, but i cant send files to aim users b/c it only rarely works!
Ichat on the other hand has a great interface and files transfer well, but the buddy list... grr the buddy list, despite having groups it just shows one whole list, not divided into groups, and the names are so big only a few fit, i cant make the names smaller, or show groups, if i put show buddy group then it doesnt show any of the other groups... surely theres a way to get it to show all groups! i know the new version of ichat is supposedly having tabs, which is great b/c i hate having 20 windows open, but with the F10 key, thats ok i can deal with it... but the buddy list, i just hate that!
the only solution ive found is to use adium and then switch to ichat when i transfer a file... but thats gotten amazingly annoying!
Can someone, anyone! help me?

wow.
you just opened the floodgates to a crapflood of posts saying:
"use fire"
"use AIM"
"use ICQ"
"use msn"
"use windows AIM"
etc..
good job man.
unfortunatly i cant offer any advice. i do pretty much what you do... i use adium, then switch to AIM when i need file transfer.
and before i see:
"ADIUM SUPPORTS FILE TRANSFER IDIOT RETARD, I AM RIGHT AND YOU ARE WRONG AND NOW I FEEL POWERFUL AND I JUST CAME ALL OVER MY HAND"....
yes, but its a smurfy implementation that rarely works.

Re: Grr Ichat vs Adium
I choose iChat ultimately because I hate having to switch between the two. I've sort of trained myself not to be bothered by its inequities. There are some issues I have that are still quite glaring. A) The buddy list needs to be 10 times more customizable. Personally, the perfect buddy-list for me would just be a column of icons. Since each icon is a picture of my corresponding buddy I dont need more than that. However, there are plenty of other modifications that I'm sure we would all like to see, just give us the option to set it up our own way Apple. Please? B) File transferring is still from from fool proof in iChat. And when there is a problem, it's a mystery on how to diagnose or fix it. Is it a firewall? Is it my buddy's old version of AIM? Is it a simple software preference issue, is it sun spots in the ozone layer, What the-?! Ultimately I choose iChat because I like it's feel and I enjoy the occasional video chat. So I guess I'd suggest going with that.
