10.3 Install CD Won't see HD

Hello.

For some reason, the 10.3 install CD won't see the internal HD of a 2000 slot-loading iMac. I installed 10.2 just fine, as it did see the HD. But even after installing 10.2 (it had come with OS 9.2.2 on it) it wouldn't see the HD.

But 10.2 saw it just fine.

The Firmware is up to date. It's 350Mhz, 256MB RAM, and 7GB HD.

After I installed 10.2, I thought maybe somehow that would do it. So I put in the 10.3 disc and restarted with the C key down. And what happens? Open Firmware comes on the screen. That happened two times in a row, but then I managed to start up from the 10.3 disc, but it still wouldn't see the HD.

Any ideas?

Have you tried launching the Disk Utility from the CD boot? Does DU see the drive? If so, try fixing and repairing permissions on both the disk and the volume.

Re: 10.3 Install CD Won't see HD

I knew I forgot to mention something.

No, DU doesn't see it either. That's totally weird.

Maybe the CD is damaged in some way?.... but it installed fine on a PowerBook G4 and a 2001 iMac slot-loader (one year younger than the other iMac with the weird HD problem).

Oh, and it only has 10.2 on it now. No 9. I did an Erase and Install.

It's unlikely a damaged CD would allow you to boot but not allow you to mount your HD. Do you have another Mac? If so try Firewire Target Disk Mode: Hold down the 'T' key on the iMac during boot and connect it to t'other Mac with a Firewire cable.

Is it a real Install CD or is it one meant for another computer?

Re: 10.3 Install CD Won't see HD

Neither of these iMacs have FireWire.

Yes it's a normal 10.3 install CD.
