MPEG2 to DVD

Ok, this is legal... I got the MPEG2 file from here ( Plan 9 From Outer Space available at the Internet Archive )
I downloaded the big guy so I could get the best quality and now I want to put it onto DVD to I can watch it on the Telly.

So, the only thing I've found that will burn it is Toast but it wants to take that 1.8GB MPEG2 file and make it 5.7GB.

Is there any way I can put this onto DVD without owning pro applications?

Re: MPEG2 to DVD

Gipetto,
Toast is your best option. When toast (Or any other program) burns to a DVD, it will actually take your m2v file and convert them into .VOB files on the disc. As long as it is shorter than 2 hours, you should have no problems with it.

"Destroy All Humans" has that movie on the game disk.

Re: MPEG2 to DVD

I discovered this site a few weeks ago and have gleefully burned copies of Nosferatu and His Girl Friday. Now I tried burning a copy of some Charlie Chaplin shorts, but Toast is telling me I don't have enough room! This is seriously confusing me because the MPEG for His Girl Friday was 3.3 GB and 1:31:44 long, while the Charlie Chaplin shorts were 2.8 GB and 1:17:26 long! Why could Toast have enough room for the first but not the second? confused

Any ideas?

And does anyone know of a program that would be able to reduce the size of the MPEG so it could fit on the DVD (reducing quality I know, but if there were no other reasonable option?)

Re: MPEG2 to DVD

Apple sells a plug-in for Quicktime that enables you to watch mpeg-2. I believe, if you have Quicktime Pro, you should be able to save it in a different format.
