I'm not saying to not defend yourself, just that physically doing so during an arrest might not be the right time.  Rather try to explain the whole situation when the cops are going to listen (superiors, etc.). Of course there are exceptions to this but I'm speaking in general terms.

"Invasion?"  Really?  By most accounts, Americans have more recognized rights in relation to police powers than were possessed many years ago.  There was a time when the Bill of Rights didn't apply to state and local police forces at all.

That's not to say we shouldn't remain vigilant...

Re: University of Florida student tazered

What I find most disturbing about this is that some of the comments I see floating around the internet says the student was lucky to be tasered as opposed to getting a 45 in the chest, this is just IMO but if a video of police shooting an unarmed student who was already pinned down were to be put on the internet, there would probably be Rodney King style rioting going on sometime in the future hmm

Naw, Call of Duty is too much like an arcade game.

Americas Army or Red Orchestra is better. Or a flight simulator.

You're not serious... are you? For a long while, the Bill of Rights only applied to the federal gov't.

The Bill of Rights limits the power of government, not protects them. And who would the limit of government be protecting ? Citizens.

roll I meant that the federal government was the only government bound by the bill of rights for a long period after the signing of the bill of rights.

A lot of the other forums I frequent (which admittedly have a much lower level a maturity...like 20 stories lower) had these same sentiments of "oh they shoulda shot him in the head blah blah blah."  Its another case of this internet anonymity thing.  I think a lot of those people, were you to have a face to face conversation with them, would never say that in real life (course some still would roll), but on the internet where they're only a user name they can spout all the nonsense they like without fear of having to answer for it

As has been pointed out to you, at one time the Bill of Rights only limited the actions of the federal government.

Incorporation.

Incorporation of the Bill of Rights is the legal doctrine by which portions of the U.S. Bill of Rights are applied to the states through the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Most of those portions of the Bill of Rights were incorporated by a series of United States Supreme Court decisions in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.

Though the Bill of Rights was originally written to limit only the power of the federal government, the Supreme Court has ruled that most of its guarantees protect citizens against state governments.

*edit*

D'oh, same link as what chickenhawk already posted.

Regardless of whether or not the states agreed with the power of the bill it was still written to protect the people. The supreme court rulings were because the states were being unconstitutional.

The states were wrong.... so you are arguing that they were right ?

The interpretation of the bill changed over time. If you want to take an absolutist stance, then I can just start to ignore you.
