New Plans for My G4

Well, I'll soon have my warranty replacement for the Sonnet Duet 1.8 that I got off of eBay.  I'm getting ready for Leo, and want to upgrade my graphics card.  Right now it is a Rage6.  Quartz Extreme is supported.  If at all possible, I want to get something that will support Core Image as well.  However, my 2x AGP slot seems to limit that severely.

Here is what I'm looking for:  AGP 2x compatible and an ADC connector.  Any recommendations?

Or...do I buy the stripped down Quicksilver on eBay, put my new processor card in it, along with my RAM and then pick up a 4x AGP card?

Re: New Plans for My G4

If you buy a Quicksilver try to get a 2002 one instead of an '01 one. I have a 933 MHZ '02 one. They improved quite a few things: faster video cards, CPUs, added DDR level 3 cache, and larger HD ATA support.

Based on the findings of the report, my conclusion was that this idea was not a practical deterrent for reasons which at this moment must be all too obvious.

Re: New Plans for My G4

I decided against the QS platform.  I would need to buy new RAM, and I'd rather not do that.

So far, I found the Nvidia Geforce4 Ti 4600.  It doesn't support Core Image, but it does have the ADC connector...

Re: New Plans for My G4

Well, I bought a graphics card that is supposed to be AGP 2x compliant (Geforce 6200) as well as Mac compatible.  My new motherboard is on the way and hopefully when all of my stuff gets here, it will all work perfectly....yeah, because that's how everything always goes.

6200 doesn't have ADC tho. Also its tricky when getting one cause some are 64bit Memory and others are 128bit. Both boards have their own quirks too. For performance I would have said one of those Radeon 9800s. You'd still need an ADC adapter tho.

Re: New Plans for My G4

Yeah, I'm planning on either getting and ADC adapter (there goes $100), or just getting a big LCD with DVI (yay for working in an electronics store).  I guess it was sort of a last minute decision.  I saw it listed as AGP 2x compliant, 256mb and actually had the older G4 towers listed as compatible...so I jumped on it.

Re: New Plans for My G4

Well least you get SM3 on it. Not a lot of options with those old 2x AGP macs compared to 4x. Be sure to run some benches on it if you can. If you have Halo, definite plus for benching there. Think i'll leave my Cube with it's Geforce 3 but I am curious to see a similar setup on a 6200.

Re: New Plans for My G4

Oh yeah, I'll bench it a bunch.  After all of this time and money, I want to know what I've got.  Xbench for sure, as well as Cinebench and UT2k4 (sorry, I don't have Halo).
