I don't know if Forge is disappointing, however it was hyped a bit too much. I think it's fun, but I'm not quite a fan of the multiplayer editing. I find that bores everyone else on the couch. I really need to play around with Forge by myself when I have a lot of free time.

That said, many of the critical multiplayer options are accessible outside of Forge. Last night some buddies and I created a game that was absolutely hilarious and addictive. Valhalla, Rocket & Gravity Hammers, infinite ammo, one shot / one kill, 300% speed, and 50% gravity. Too damn fun.

My big Halo 3 complaints tend to be the same complaints everyone else is talking about. The latter campaign levels with the Flood are a chore and the story could have been narrated better.

I will take the matter under advisement.

However, even I have limits. I can escape the closure of the Universe, but getting Bungie to change multiplayer so soon after release...

Anyhoo, one fault I found ties in with the following. No matter what Frankie says, I'd've preferred Michael Winicott to have been retained as Truth; the only substitute I'd take is John Hurt- the two sound greatly alike already. As it is, the effect is discontinuity, noticeable already in the Campaign trailer from E3. (Terence Stamp is fine, but not the same).

There is good, tho, and rather than make a separate post on this...

If you've played Halo 3's campaign, you know the game's cast includes such noted actors as Terence Stamp (General Zod from Superman II), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), and Katee Sackoff (Battlestar Galactica and Bionic Woman). But Bungie's blastfest also includes a bit of stunt casting, as the guys behind online machinima cartoon Red Vs. Blue — which uses footage from Halo and Halo 2 to make fun of games, gamers, and themselves — also turn up as marines. We spoke to three of the guys — Jason Saldana (the voice of Pvt. Tucker), Geoff Ramsey (Pvt. Grif), and Matt Hullum (Sarge) — about going from RvB to Halo 3.

Hey, where are Burnie Burns and Gus Sorola? They're in it too. (And John DiMaggio, GoW's Marcus Fenix [and Futurama's Bender], voices the Brute Chieftains. See, Levi? Epicness!).

I was really, really hoping for some Firefly references in their lines, but never heard any. I wonder if there's any way we can hear dialogue as based on voice actor. What say ye, Bat?

HBO will be working up multimedia treatment- dialog, cutscenes etc. for H3 as with the previous 2. So sayeth Claude.

Don't know if Spark will come out of retirement to do dialog recording, but it's a new game so he might. I hope so. The more I play, the more I see and hear- dialog, Sentinels emerging from dispensers a la 2, etc. Wish I had the time, but I'm into it and still haven't mustered time to learn Forge, Saved Films and such. Life is busy if not all cute bunnies & daffodils.

Halo 3 on Canadian TV
Rock Opera Jr points out that a clip from Space's Hypaspace Weekly show in Canada, involving a quick Halo 3 match on Last Resort, is now online at the Spacecast website. The clip shows a single round (with one offense and one defense for each team) of Assault - with great angles and nice use of Saved Films. I already mentioned dialog at HBO. H2 is already largely broken down by character, and voiced by a single known actor (not hard to guess who 'Marine Cross' was voiced by). Combat dialog recordings have always been encouraged, but original soundfiles are different, and not legal. Bungie has released vocal outtakes in the past, but the old ones either didn't make the transition to the latest version of Bnet or are buried somewhere I haven't looked yet.

Did you mean non-vocal sounds?

Besides being illegal which we don't discuss, it'd be likely as difficult as getting the music soundtrack. That's not only dynamic, it's now mixed, blended, sequenced from fragments or code in realtime). Like Saved Films, which aren't films per se but game data recordings that only play back in the game engine. H3 is the first game to do fully realtime audio.

Did you see that video where a single spartan with a puny gun was able to run up to a tank... and WIN? The Forge guy dropped a bubble shield on top of his teammate (protecting him from tank explosions), then dropped a spartan laser inside the bubble shield (allowing MC to charge it up, exit the shield right before it fired, and destroy the tank). That's what Forge is about.

Halolcats is one of those cat-meme sites, only this time, all the "catptions" are about Halo and related themes. We realize this site is a little olde, but decided to see if we could crush their bandwidth by sending you to LOL, or HaLOL as the kids say over there.
