Re: So whats wrong with Halo 3...
I had recovered my gamertag at my friends house one night. The following day when i would try and recover it at home it would say xbox live could not be contacted. I tried on 3 separate consoles with the correct information
So, I guess since i was impatient I created a new one instead of calling microsoft.
edited for spelling.

Re: So whats wrong with Halo 3...
Well, after some missed attempts, finally hooked up for an Icks 'n' tracks reunion (Pinky/Brain? Lenny & Squiggy?
). Tried out a couple FF maps new to me, the exterior and interior of ONI's Alpha Complex... cold, tired & flu-y first map (but much fun) (Security Zone), the same but somewhat warmed up inside (Alpha Site). Found a few wepin spawns; never did get more than a vague idea where Health is... didn't matter. Broke 200,000 first try; was adjudged to 'still have it.' Nice thing to say, anyway... but I did score in the middle, had fewest deaths- again (4 of the 6 were from falling into bottomless pools- whoda thunk?), saw some of the most intense action I've seen (esp. during Bonus Rounds- grenade-a-palooza), got an Invincible and a Dream Crusher- and, after 85 minutes, we were just getting warmed up, maybe 15 lives left; but someone needed to go, so pulled plug at 207,255 [Set: 4 Round: 1 Wave: 5]. Just us three, so whoever missed it... missed it. Next time. Took down other film, threw that one up on the fileshare. Still room for me and Books co-op first try; soon.
So, mein Kamerad, du bist ein übersturmtrupen?

Re: So whats wrong with Halo 3...
Well, that was one for the books. Too bad rain took out my connection, so it won't go into my record and the detail stats won't be available... but it went like this.
Not enough for a full game on, waited for Levi to come back. He opted for a short runthru of the L4D2 demo, little hope of 4 without him after 9... so I decided to revisit Alpha Site, learn the map so's I could do it better next time; have some fun too, seeing how far I could get doing the job three had done t'other night. Set Cowbell on, otherwise the same.
Pretty far- as in, just under 4:08, 4/3/3, 200,920(?) points. 21 deaths, something >1200 kills, including another Hunter from the front thru the neck joint. IIRC several Killatrocities, another Dreamcrusher, 8 Untouchables, 3 Invincibles (100 straight), 2 Shotgun Sprees... can't remember half. But the film, which lives, does. I'll swap them soon; if either of the others will put up the first, I will as soon as.
Boy, solo Hunter kills ain't easy with all skulls on, no allies, hardly any ammo. Proudest of those.

Re: So whats wrong with Halo 3...
Jeez- if my memory is right, I had the same number of deaths and over a hundred more kills than the three of us combined the other night, for a similar point total. If the Brute I last stuck hadn't gotten too close and taken me with him in that Double Kill, I might've played another hour.
...and boy, you sure can get altitude with Cowbell on.

Re: So whats wrong with Halo 3...
...and that one was just exhausting. But it sums up like this... 180 Carbine kills, 290 total headshots, 5 hours 8 1/2 minutes; 232,753 points. Badass- Unlocked.
MA Bat points kills deaths
232,753 1,329 20
Total Length: 05:08:28 Set: 5 Round: 1 Wave: 5
Isn't there supposed to be a Spartan Laser out there somewhere? I never found it, or I coulda had me some Wraiths and an overall easier time of it. Then again, it might still be going on, and I can't afford that much time or energy investment. (Hell, I can't even upload this damn film- at 26.2MB it's bigger than a standard fileshare. Maybe I'll have to get after Bungie to give me that 3 months of Bungie Pro I never got; I've got some use for it now, including some render-to-movie worth doing).
Game here.

I'm liking ODST so far, although the damn game checkpointed me just when I got my hog stuck up in range of a Wraith blast.
Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.

An undocumented feature of the Halo engine[s] is that it/they keep two checkpoints in memory, for cases like that. It's also useful if you want/need to go back one for some reason (I have, tho not much in ODST). The PC version of 1 even made it a menu item, tho I haven't played enough of 1 on console to know if that feature was exposed. Works like this:
If you die 5 times in a row quickly enough, the game figures you're in an untenable situation and kicks you back one checkpoint. It happened to me once in 3, when my controller was going wonky- the left analog stick got sticky, lost centering action (grit and less spring tension over time. Likely need a new one, really)... I thought I had stopped my Scorpion short of the usual checkpoint locale to take some potshots at Banshees overhead, in the Citadel assault. Turns out it hadn't quite... game checkpointed as the Scorp went over the cliff.
Cute, but I knew that after watching 4 more "...Waah!!"s, I'd be kicked back, and I was.
If you kill yourself 5 times quickly, that works too.
It's slightly buggy and doesn't work 100%, but it seems close to 98%-99% in my experience. One checkpoint is the limit, tho; you can't keep regressing.
Get on Live when you can and we'll have us some co-op/FF fun.

Re: So whats wrong with Halo 3...
Connection also went out as I was posting this in the early AM. Better late...
---------------
Another rainy night, another lost connection. Really too bad. XBL was up and running as I crossed 200,000 ftw, but went out long before the end. Another game that won't be in the records.
Lost Platoon, solo. IIRC something a little south of 700,000 points, 2,200 kills, ~274 Splatters, 140 something Spartan Laser kills... I das'n't say how long it took. Exhausting. The film is way too big to upload w/out Bungie Pro, at 33.5 MB.
But ya know... them numbers felt good. Biggest other bad was sound out in one channel not letting me hear an incoming Chopper that ended the game... a few more minutes, and I'd've crossed 700k. As it is my high score should read about 200k higher. C'est la vie.
Digi's likely on for tonight. Looking for a good group.

Who's Who In Halo: Evolutions
Tor Books has released a list of the authors contributing to the Halo: Evolutions anthology novel, along with the cover art, featuring everyone's favorite green suit of armor with a guy inside it.
Halo: Evolutions, due out on November 24th, is an extended look at the Halo universe through the eyes of popular science fiction and fantasy authors, along with several members of Microsoft's 343 Industries' staff. On the author side we get stories from Karen Traviss of Star Wars: Republic Commando fame, The Last Days author B.K. Evenson, and comic book writer Fred Van Lente.
The 343 Industries team responsible for the Halo game franchise delivers stories from franchise director Frank O'Connor, managing editor Kevin Grace, and Robert McLees, a writer on the first three Halo games as well as the upcoming Halo: Reach.
"We sought out writers who came to the table with an obvious passion for Halo and amazing story ideas." says Eric Raab, Tor editor. "We got stuff for every kind of Halo fan from straight up action with the Master Chief to glimpse into the Elite mindset post Halo 3, and some really cool explorations of some other familiar faces like Cortana, the Gravemind, and Admiral Preston Cole, and some awesome new stuff that wander into unexplored territory of the Halo mythos."
The only books I love more than video game novels that explore untold back-story is anthologies of stories that do the same thing. Makes for an extremely bathroom-friendly read. Check out the full list of contributors below, along with a nice shot of the book's cover, so you know what to look for.
TOBIAS S. BUCKELL, the New York Times bestselling author of HALO: The Cole Protocol and Sly Mongoose.
B.K. EVENSON, the Edgar and Horror Guild International nominated author of Last Days and The Open Curtain.
JONATHAN GOFF, writer and artist with 343 Industries.
KEVIN GRACE, writer and Managing Editor of 343 Industries.
ROBT McLEES, Bungie game developer and writer on Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 and Halo 3, as well as the upcoming Halo: Reach.
ERIC NYLUND, the New York Times bestselling author of Halo: The Fall of Reach and Halo: Ghosts of Onyx, and most recently a new non-Halo series that begins with Mortal Coils.
FRANK O'CONNOR, the Franchise Director for Halo at 343 Industries.
ERIC RAAB, writer, and Tor editor of the Halo novels since 2004.
KAREN TRAVISS, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of her own Wess'har series as well as Star Wars and Gears of War novels.
JEFF VANDERMEER & TESSA KUM: Vandermeer is the World Fantasy award-winning writer of City of Saints and Madman as well as Shriek: An Afterword and Finch. Kum is the author of 7wishes and editor for Weird Tales and the Best American Fantasy series.
FRED VAN LENTE, the New York Times bestselling author of Incredible Hercules (with Greg Pak) and Marvel Zombies 3, as well as Cowboys and Aliens and the upcoming Marvel comic series Halo: Blood Line.

Re: So whats wrong with Halo 3...
Ooh, the Bungie WU is up early.
Disclaimer: This updated is intended for information purposes only. It contains general knowledge and substandard internet humor, and should not be relied on for any purpose. It should not be construed as containing specific instructions for any particular player. Bungie disclaims all responsibility for the accuracy and reliability of this update, and/or any consequences arising from the use of this information, including damage or adverse consequences to persons or property, however such damages or consequences arise. No warranty, either expressed or implied, is made in regards to this update.
The beginning of the week brought with it a lineup of carts topped off with dozens of devkits, each and every one loaded up with the post-milestone aftermath otherwise known as the Halo: Reach Take Home Milestone 3 Playtest. Catchy name, eh? Really rolls right off the tongue.
Nobody’s too worried about the nomenclature, though. All night long ‘til the break-a break-a dawn (10pm PST) this Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, Bungie was focused on one thing and one thing only: putting the latest and greatest multiplayer spaces through the proverbial paces.
We’ve chatted you up about the importance of playtest at Bungie in past updates, but since this is the first time in a while we’ve publicly talked about putting the new multiplayer hotness through our internal ringers, we figured we should probably linger a little bit and let you Experience the Magic yourself.
Ready?
Relax your shoulders, open wide, and GET SET for a mouthful of hot multiplayer playtest. I’ve got a duo of scantily clad designers, Derek Carroll and Lars Bakken, and a lone but seasoned engineer, Luke Timmins, ready to step on stage and deliver all the juicy details about why they do what they do, what exactly went down in everyone's living room this week, and why in the world Chad was allowed to do placeholder voice work.
Last week's had a fair amount about Reach, as well. Seems to be coming along nicely.

Too bad more folks didn't turn up for our post-Halloween FF Rampage. Apologies to anyone who showed up after the train left the station (we didn't turn anyone down, but Levi was a bit reluctant to interrupt to invite a late arrival or two).
The bad news: we didn't top 1,000,000. In better news...

Re: So whats wrong with Halo 3...
What's wrong with ODST? Bungie needs to fix the game ending when a player drops. We were SOOOO close to 200K then...POOF! Grrrrrrrrr.
Silver lining: Excuse to play more Firefight.

Yes! Yes! Come burn FIVE HOURS with us.

Which reminds me of another problem Bungie needs to fix. Epic lets the host pause Horde matches. Why can't we pause FF matches Bungie!?! I mean really in FIVE HOURS you didn't think someone might have to take a leak?
