GPU Clockin
So, my GeForce 6200 came yesterday, and I'm just waiting on the DVI-ADC converter to put it in. I was reading up online on the card, and from what I've read from some tests, the 6200 is nearly identical to the 6800, the only difference being that the 6800 has 8 pipelines and the 6200 has only 4. However, the card itself is the same, the other 4 pipelines are just disabled.
There is a utility for Windows (RivaTuner) that will unlock the other 4 pipelines and let you overclock the card (it is stable far beyond the 350mhz core from what I've seen). Is there something similar for OS X? I know of one program that will change the core speed, but won't, as far as I know, let you unlock the rest of the card....
Any ideas? I'm just in class right now and looking around online on my laptop...a little bored, that this little "tweak" caught my eye...

Re: GPU Clockin
Well theres a lil more to the 6200 and 6800s. The 6800 is also 256bit while the 6200 is only 64/128 bit and has varied board designs. There really isn't any GPU tuning apps for OSX other than clocking ones. You could check the Mac Elite about progress involving opening the other pipelines but even if possible, not every board would support it.
My guess is its not possible yet since you'd probably see unlocked boards for Mac on ebay already put up by people charging $200 for 5 mins worth of work. Hey capitalism is great ain't it
. Heck if I was more confident applying tape to pins i'd probably go into the G70 flash business. Altho having to do tech support would kill me.

Re: GPU Clockin
Do you know if the PC ROM is included on the 6200? I was thinking, that maybe..just maybe, I could drop the card into my PC, use RivaTuner to unlock it, and then put it back in my Mac.
That said, so far the card is working rather well. I think I'm to the point where my dual 500mhz is holding me back, but Sonnet's warranty replacement should be on the way. I'll b sure to post some detailed tests and improvements once everything is how I want it.

Re: GPU Clockin
You're probably noticing what I noticed when I dropped a 7800GS into mine. The CPU became the bottleneck and there was nothing I could do to push things enough to even stress the GPU a lil bit. When you get to testing you'll probably see how much these old Macs could really handle, then get ticked at why ATI has let things slip so much. Tho 2x AGP couldn't really be taken much farther.
You could find a PC ROM for that board and flash it back over. Not quite sure if the 6200 flash is a straight flash or if theres more to it however. Problem with unlocking then flashing back...the unlock might not appear again on the Mac ROM. If it is hard modded to be unlocked then you'd probably have a chance. Not sure what tests would show it. Probably Cinebench and Halo would but UT is rather CPU bound.

Re: GPU Clockin
I think before I start flashing a Mac board TO a PC board, I'll see how the CPU upgrade feels. If I really, really want more, then I'll think about this some more.
Until then, I'll just use the ONE app I found to adjust the core speed.....now time to do some research to see what I can clock it to safely.
