I think I'm too excited for Leopard. I'm like Mac OS 8 excited, when I really should only be Mac OS 7.5 excited...

I think people in general are getting too excited for Leopard.

I want it, but i'm not gonna probably attend a launch party like for X.4. Probably gonna do like I did last time and get an edu discount on it to save a few $$$. Takes longer on shipping but oh well.

I'll buy mine at CompUSA.
Sneer all you want, but at least I didn't have to stand in line for 10.3 the night it came out.

Official indeed. But the timer works for me in Firefox 2, but not in Safari 1.3.2 under Panther. Hm.

A few bucks is right. The academic price is $116.

Re: Getting closer
Just placed my pre-order and it states it will be delivered on October 26th!
Educational discount brings it down to $116.00 instead of the usual $79.
With tax of $5 something, I'm only saving eight bucks
if taken into consideration that I could go to the tax free Salem, NH Apple Store which is 10 minutes away from me but I don't want the headache. The ed discount is now pretty sucky.

FF 2.0.0.7 here, works fine, as does Safari 2.0.4.
<sarcasm>What's Panther? Is that, like OS 9?</sarcasm>
(Lots of stuff gets broken in new browsers, but requiring 10.4 for Safari 2.0 was kinda boneheaded.)

I wonder... if enough people complain about the edu discount, do you think steve jobs will issue an open letter giving an applestore credit to the early adopters?

Same here!
I wouldn't be so desperate for Leopard if I had Tiger on my G5, as I do on my macbook. But the last year has been really frustrating, as very few programs are done to work on panther.

Gorram it. I could really use the MBP now but then I could wait ten days and get leopard. And of course deal with launch bugs as well.

Re: Getting closer
All Macs pruchased from 10/1 and onward can upgrade to Leopard for a $10 shipping fee. So go ahead and feel free to buy your MBP. Then just pay the extra $10 for Leopard later on.

Oh thanks. I'll do that.
I had a dream the other day consisting of nothing but using Leopard. Is that normal?

Holy crap! For the first time (in my memory, at least) a version of OS X costs the SAME in Canada as in the U.S.
Used to be $129 U.S., $189 Canadian.

Apple totally dropped the ball on the timer. There should be an "install countdown timer widget" button right there. Alas...no widget at all. Not like I'd use it but jeez....doesn't it take like < 5 seconds to make a widget in Leopard?

For sure. But everything else from Apple is still quite a bit more expensive here. It's nice to get a break for a change. Especially now that we're getting screwed so badly on our exports.

Re: Getting closer
New products for Canada are more price adjusted, aren't they?
It's just the older products (summer and before) that are disproportionately high in price in canada I thought.
