I couldn't agree more. This is why people get upset after something like this gets released. They work themselve up into a frenzy and then once the bugs start popping up (yes there will be some issues, there always is) they over react. It's one thing to be happy that it's finally going to be available, but IMO some people are taking it a bit too far and setting themselves up for disappointment. I really hope I'm wrong
So go ahead and feel free to buy your MBP.
That works fine for Leopard but what if they make changes to the MBP as rumored. Your MBP would suddenly be the older model. Sure you could exchange it but that seems like a lot of hassel to go through when they could just wait and get everything in 10 days. That way you don't have to worry about anything, including installation.

Out of curiosity, how much do they chage for installation?

Time for another swig of Kool-Aid.
I'm a grad student and not delighted that the academic price is so much higher than Tiger's was, but I still put in my pre-order today.

Normally I'd agree, but the MBPs were just updated in June, so I'd be surprised if Apple updated them before MWSF, if not even later. I'd expect them to update the Macbook, Mac Pro, and Mac Mini before the next round of MBP updates.
Why isn't anything raisin-flavored?

Yes but you're forgetting that Oct 26 is just a few days away from Nov 1, so really June is around 5 months away. Not that unreasonable for Apple to update them. They may also release a new model. There's a lot of talk about a Tablet and/or a mid sized desktop coming out which I really think we'll see within the next 6 months, if not when Leo comes out. Time will tell. Two weeks from now whatever happens will all be old news to us

As I explained to tF, it's a play on the OS 8.5 tagline, "it's like getting a whole new Mac for only $99."

This only applies to those who have a relatively new Mac (64-bit, etc) already as older machines aren't going to see the performance boost.

Why does it say $99, I though Leopard was $129.00?

Something is wrong with the educational discount, which is $116. The State and Government is discounted to 107.10. The ed discount has always been much less for students than government employees, ALWAYS. I know, because I'm a State employee and always check that stuff.

This is complete bullsmurf! Tiger to Leopard is about the same move as 10.0 to 10.1.
The G4s may not see as much of a boost, but G4 towers, and CD Intel machines should see large benefits. Yes 64bit machines will see great improvements, but a lot of the improvements aren't platform dependant.
The Leopard Finder alone is enough to justify the upgrade, even on older machines.
Edit: No idea what it costs to get them to install, but I'm pretty sure I know how to put in a DVD and install myself.

Either you are just guessing here or you are referring to the rumors of an update to the MacBook line. I have not personally heard any rumors of an update to the MacBook Pro line.

This is pretty bad, especially since Amazon is selling it for $109 with no taxes. The only reason I haven't jumped on it and ordered from Amazon is that I'm not sure when they will be shipping. Then again, I probably won't have time to install it this weekend so I might as well order it where it is cheapest.

I have heard 3 rumors about a new laptop, some by credible sources. The possibilites are, an Apple tablet, an Apple budget laptop (the Mac mini of laptops) and a extremely thin laptop. We'll know in a few days but I'm kind of hoping for a tablet

And even though none of those are updates to the MBP line you told the person looking to buy a MBP to wait because a new model was on the way...

No, I never said anything definite. I said "what if" they came out with an update. Big difference. I just tried to access the site that was talking about it but their server is currently down. They were talking about possible CPU and graphics updates. Here is another article that talks about possible updates. One things for certain, technology is always advancing.

Actually you said:
MyMac8MyPC wrote:

My point was that you were making it sound as if there were rumors of an upcoming MBP update. Even the link you provide above points to a MacBook update, not MBP. Yes, you said what if, but you followed this with as rumored and yet you haven't provided any evidence that it is even rumored.
Finally you say, "one thing is for certain, technology is always advancing." So is that a reason to wait or to upgrade now??? Because my advice is that if you need a new computer you should always go ahead and buy the best one you can afford. The only way you should wait is if you don't need the machine immediately AND one of the following is true:
1) MacWorld is WWDC is less than a month away.
2) There are strong rumors of an upcoming update to the machine you want.
3) It has been a really long time (over 8 months) since they updated the machine you want.
However, to just make general statements like you did when a the current version was released four months ago isn't really helpful.
