Re: The official "pulled the trigger" (10.5)
I'm going to wait until I hear of an update or what the bugs are. I'm very happy with tiger and am not going to shell out $129 for features that I don't really need.

Believe me, I plan on keeping Tiger on my MacPro. I already have a blank partition waiting for Leopard.

You have to buy a separate copy for each machine you want to install it on. Contact Apple for pricing if you have lots of machines.

I don't think I'll be installing it right away, though...at least on everyone's machine. I'll install it on my mini & see how it goes, and then get everyone else up to speed if all goes well with Exchange/network setups/etc.
Beauty of the Family Pack is that with 5 licenses, I can take the one that's left and put it on my iBook since I use it to work from home sometimes. Plus, I can't wait to see what extras will be enabled on the 'ol iPhone.
I hadn't planned on buying Leopard for awhile otherwise. You do realize that the Family Pack is not authorized for commercial use right?
What's your point?

Because it's important for thieves to know that they're being thieves. Some people may genuinely misunderstand the law and I, for one, think they should be made aware that what they're doing could actually get them in trouble.
Misunderstanding of the law is obviously what's going on in this case. I mean, why would someone actually pay for 5 licenses if they were planning on misusing them? If you're going to break the EULA anyway, why not just buy the single license? Or just steal it outright?

I gave in and pulled the trigger. I knew it would happen. The thought of going to the mailbox on Friday and having Leopard in there waiting for me was too enticing.
It was that damn video they posted on Apple.com that got me.

Actually, I got it from Apple Canadas website as an "uptodate" deal! Since I bought my MBP on the 7th of October, I get a $10 upgrade to leopard

That Download Stack is going to be a life saver for me. I can't think of how many times I've let my desktop get clogged up and then had to rip through it looking for what I need and what I don't need. Most of it is just useless .dmg files that I forgot to get rid of.

You know you can point your downloads into a folder by default?

I did that. I called the folder "downloads".

I presently work for a private, non-commercial, not-for-profit organization that doesn't qualify for an "education discount."
So I'm not terribly worried about it. We're paying the full retail price for a Family Pack of licenses that won't leave the building. We have no interest in doing anything illegal, and received counsel that we're in the clear.

Re: The official "pulled the trigger" (10.5)
I would say your counsel is incorrect. An organization is an organization. If your not living in the same househould then you don't qualify for the Family Pack license. It's pretty simple actually.
Apple.com wrote:
* The Family Pack Software License Agreement allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple software on up to a maximum of five (5) Apple-labeled computers at a time as long as those computers are located in the same household and used by persons who occupy that household. By “household” we mean a person or persons who share the same housing unit such as a home, apartment, mobile home, or condominium, including student members who are primary residents of that household but reside at a separate on-campus location. This license does not extend to business or commercial users.

Re: The official "pulled the trigger" (10.5)
You obviously did not read the quote from Apple's own website where it describes those who qualify for the Family Pack as those that LIVE together in the same household. Do you live with your boss?
The fact that you called him boss implies that you recieve a paycheck and therefore most likely do not live with him/her. Hence your lack of qualification to purchase and use the Family Pack.
Heck, doesn't the label "Family" give you enough of a clue as to what Apple has intended the userbase for this license pack to be?
Oh, and nonprofit not qualifying for educational is not a reason either.

Re: The official "pulled the trigger" (10.5)
I placed my order yesterday together with a Tucano cable pouch for my iPod-stuff. Unfortunately by adding the pouch my delivery time has been set to more or less two weeks from now. According to the confirmation it's the "build-time" for the bag that does it. Man, I didn't know they came fresh out of the factory!

Now, where in the name of... did I put that thing that I forgot what it was and why I was looking for it?

Once again...the counsel we received told me/us we're in the clear. I'm not sure why you feel obligated to express a "God complex" on this, but I guess there are some people that just can't entertain the possibility that they might possibly be wrong.
That's why I sought counsel on this matter...to make sure we were doing the right thing. I was told we were. So I'll go on the advice of counsel instead of some internet screen name's personal opinion on a message board.
If you'd like our counsel's phone number, you're free to call him and tell him how wrong he is and how right you are. It's fine. You're free to think you're 100% right.
Let's move on.
