$100/bbl oil
...'cause that's where it's going.
Awhile back people were saying "if the US attacks Iran, there'll be $100/bbl oil!!!"
Now, without and attack, that's where it almost is (it hit $90 today).
That, plus the real estate crash, plus zillions in loans held by the Chinese, plus the tanking dollar....
...hoooooo boy!
The only good thing is, a war will be too expensive to run.
The only bad thing is, desperation can cause wars.
Thoughts?

Too expensive? What's too expensive? Nothing's too expensive! Just run up the credit card some more. Better than that, it's a credit card in which the customer sets the credit limit (and keeps extending it)!

If the US attacks Iran the first thing I'll do is take my money out of the bank, and possibly use it to buy a brick of gold or something.
I could bore you with a philosophical tirade about freedom and tyranny, or try and explain to you what new horizons are suddenly open to me, but I doubt you would understand and if you did it might frighten you. That amuses me.

In all fairness, though, I don't think it's guaranteed that high oil prices will spell our doom. We've had consistently high prices for a number of years now, and conventional wisdom says that should've triggered a recession, which it hasn't.

Re: $100/bbl oil
It is interesting that it hasn't... yet. But, I don't see prices going down anytime soon. A trends a trend... and all that. So, recession may still come along.

I spend about $20 a week on gas. Even a 100% increase in the price wouldn't cramp my style a bit.

I spend $0. But I have noticed that food prices have gone up considerably.

Thank god I moved closer to work/school. My parents commute to work. My mom drives about an hour and my dad drives further. How long until oil prices crush commuters like my parents? It's hard not to commute when you live out in the countryside of Wisconsin.

Because everyone can go out and drop $20,000 when gas prices go up!

Re: $100/bbl oil
Well, we're in the ~$15/week range for car gas. So, same deal for us on that front.
Of course, there is more to petroleum products than simply filling your tank. That's where things will start to hurt (except, ultimately, for those of us in countries that export the stuff... a rise in prices in one area should, on average, be compensated for in a higher standard of living in others).
As a Canadian, I am thrilled to see the price climb. As Americans, Chinese, Indians, etc... others should be less excited.

Re: $100/bbl oil
Gas prices go up, everything else goes up in price. Although long term it would probably be good since it would start to wean us (I mean Americans) from using so much oil.
We really need to start setting up more nuke power plants.

He's got a Ninja 250, which easily can get 70 mpg. I know a guy in DC who somehow squeezes 90 mpg out of his Ninja 250 on the highway. Heck, the used 800cc bike I just bought gets over 50. 30 is very, very low for a bike. 45 might be typical.

If I got 30 and I had a bike, I'd be pissed, because my car gets 30.
