Argh! why dells? -1 for Macs

I'm just finishing up highschool in a private charter school. Almost like a public high school but a lot smaller.
Well, the study hall up until recently was packed full of nice pretty G5 iMacs and for computer classes they have about a dozen G4 iBooks.
However, as I said until recently.
The tech guy comes in one day and announces that he'll be replacing all systems will Dells running XP. I'm all wtf we have to use Dells now?
Now the tech guy doesn't really do much besides coming in on the occasion that a system is set up, I'm not sure why he gets to decide these things.
I don't understand why they needed to do this and surround me with M$ crap.
BothComputer teachers in the school prefer the macs, the person in charge of the computer lab/study hall was against the switch, and about 75% of the students prefer macs.
The only thing wrong with the computer setup was that there were two or three laptops too few, a situation which could be solved with $2000-3000 but instead they replace them all while spending many thousands.
All the computers, even the G4s, handled every task, even graphic arts, with ease.
I feel someone has been greased under the table.

No point to this besides ranting about the fact that my education is now deep in M$. Tis sad to see when Macs loose.
I'll have my MBP soon but for now I have to use these cheap pieces of gosse.

See if they're auctioning them off.

The iMac G5's are still capable for a lot of things you throw at it. Your school could be saving money by keeping them another 2 to 3 years and they would still be productive even then. Sometimes I don't see the logic in some schools. I read an article a few weeks back on Lowendmac.com and a school was getting new computers every year. They thought they needed a 20" screen 2 Gb of ram and 2.0GHz+ to do normal tasks....

It's foolish, yeah, but what probably happens is the school gets a certain amount of funding per year for new computers. If they don't spend it every year, they get less the next year.

They keep them, and they don't end up getting used. See if you can write the school district and buy the comps off them, they might even let you have them for free.

Or you can revolt. Which will probably get you in deep crap.

No, usually equipment is transferred of property to a state-sanctioned auction company. The events where these are auctioned are always publically posted somehow, so check your local paper, though it's likely they'll be sitting on them for awhile.

And yes, in addition to "spend it or lose it" in regards to funding, School IT folk are usually swooned, taken to junkets or given an allowance for personal equipment in exchange for making a deal through the school. It's corrupt, but what about the school systems aren't?
