Apple Student Discount

My sister will be buying Final Cut Studio with her education discount. She is a student in a university and will be saving ~50% on FCS ($1300 to $600 I believe), but she doesn't know what paperwork/ID is needed to purchase from an Apple Retail store.

Also, are my parents allowed to buy a computer for her with her discount, with out her being present?

Thanks!

Re: Apple Student Discount

For the instore discount, a student ID is probably just fine if she is there.

Not there ?     Don't know.     Anybody else with the info ?

Thanks! They would be buying her a computer as a surprise, so it would defeat the point if she had to come in, and the student discount is pretty hefty (nearly $1000 saving after FCS and MacBook Pro)

I didn't have to show any ID to buy my iMac through my campus' "online store." You just click on the education section, type in your university, and you click a statement saying yes, I really am a student here. I didn't have to do anything else.

I'm talking about Apple Retail stores, not online.

But I'll keep that in mind whenever I make any Apple purchases wink.

I don't know if it's the same way now but 2 years ago when I bought Final Cut Studio I was unable to get the student discount in store. Although the academic version and the retail version are exactly the same they have or had different codes or something on the box. The academic box wasn't sent to stores.

Re: Apple Student Discount

I think the surprise of a new Mac is sufficient , even if just buying over the Internet.    Then have a nice dinner or something.   Get the data ready to transfer from old computer.  Get the desk cleaned and set up.     Make sure the method of transferring the data is decided and have the appropriate cords ready.   Have the appropriate software already downloaded.  Get the camera ready for the box opening. See, there's plenty of excitement to go around.

And order an extra 2 G of RAM from  Crucial, New Egg, CDW or Mac Sales.com  (OWC).  Final Cut is going to need it.

Can anyone confirm if this is still the case? I was going to head to the Apple store on Friday to pick up a copy using the student discount

Re: Apple Student Discount

Yeah the academic version is a different box so I wouldn't be surprised if they did not stock it in the retail stores. You can still get the discount, you'll just have to get it shipped.

When I bought my mac all I had to do was log into my college email account.  No ID required.
