It is nice that they included Safari 3. They didn't do that for 10.3 when 10.4 was released.

Installed. Shapeshifter works fine. I like the new Safari. Tabs are really useful. Maybe I'll use Safari more often now...

Re: 10.4.11 is out
I downloaded the Combo updater (180 MB) but I'm gonna hold off for a few days, maybe a couple of weeks. Just a hunch.

As long as I can remember. But they've always been turned off by default.

Ah, I never even bothered to look in prefs for that. I kinda assumed that if it was an option it would be on by default.

Unless it was an option that people who don't check the options won't use or something.
Thanks for clicking.

Everything seems fine.
I miss PithHelmet though.

That's why security experts recommend Telstra BigPond.

Re: 10.4.11 is out
Wow, SafariStand and Saft already have 10.4.11-compatible versions out.
Can anyone here with 10.4.11 tell me if you can drag a tab out of the tab bay (is there a name for the tab area?) to make it into a new window? I heard this feature was removed with the update. If so, I might stick with 10.4.10.

Re: 10.4.11 is out
In previous versions of Safari, QuickTime movies (or at least MP3s) were unsaveable when viewing the movies by themselves. The activity window just showed an error, and the saved file was 0 MB. Now it they seem to have just removed the save option all together... At least you can still right click on the link and say "Download this file"... (and yes, I am talking about legal MP3s here
) Otherwise things have been smooth so far.

YES! You definitely can still drag a tab down out of the tab bar to create a new window.
btw, I'm running a 10.4.11 on an Intel based machine.

Not so nice for me. Safari 3.0.4 has removed two key features, the loss of which will result in more than doubling the hours it takes me to get my work done.
Tabs are now the default. That's fine for those who use them, but I don't. I open more than 1,000 web pages every day. Can you image having hundreds of tabs? I use a database application that opens a new URL with each click. It's always opened them in the same, single Safari window, but Safari no longer allows that. Now it's either open a new window or open in a new tab, neither of which makes any sense for me.
Safari 3.0.4 also broke the way AutoFill works to fill in forms. With earlier versions, all I had to do was type the first letter in the first field of a form and nearly all other fields (except birthdate drop boxes) would be filled in automatically. Now typing the first letter in a form field only completes the contents of that field; I have to tab from field to field, typing the first letter in each one, to fill out form. Not much of a concern if you fill out 1 form a day. I fill out over 400 forms every day and this is going to increase the time required by more than half.
Why is it that Apple can't simply improve software? Why do they have to keep breaking it, too?

Re: 10.4.11 is out
DeaconMac, can you add the AutoFill button (from View -> Customize Toolbar…) so that you just have to click it to fill everything in?
judomeerkat, thanks for testing. :-)
Now, does anyone know why Software Update doesn't list updates that were manually downloaded as installed? I have a slow connection right now so I used a resumable download manager to download the iPhoto update and it doesn't show up in the "Installed Updates" tab of the Software Update preference pane. :-(

Re: 10.4.11 is out
So far the only general problems I'm hearing about have to do with Safari and plugins. I already knew about this from the Safari 3 betas Apple has released. I don't use Safari so this isn't a big deal for me. Even so, I have this uneasy feeling 10.4.11 will cause actual problems for me. I don't know why I have this feeling but I'm going to respect it for a while.
