AppleCare....awww crap.
So I got my MBP roughly a year ago. I say "roughly", because I forgot exactly when. Life was cruising along busily (moving back to the US, looking for a job, studying for some tests) and I forgot to invest in AppleCare before my one year was up.
Stupid stupid stupid.
Anyone planning on waiting until you have more cash lying around...beg/borrow/scrape the extra together and get it right away before you forget.
That is all.

Re: AppleCare....awww crap.
If it is any comfort: chances are if you were going to have any problems they would have shown up in the first couple of months. If you haven't had to make use of the standard warranty up to now, then it is likely that you won't need it for the next couple of years, by which time even AppleCare would have run out and you'll be looking for your next Mac anyhow.

My MBP is 20 months old. The CPU fan ground to a loud, abrupt halt last week. With Applecare, Local store service center turned it around in 3 hrs! Their service rate is $99/hr. for portables. Thank you Applecare.

Thanks for the reminder. I'm adding an Applecare purchase to my iCal.

Re: AppleCare....awww crap.
I bought AppleCare for my MBP because it's a laptop and I'm in college... i.e. this is my productivity lifeline. I need something reliable with very little downtime (more important as I progress through my major), and even if I don't use it, the peace of mind is nice to have as well.

Bought it, used it three times before the iBook repair program kicked in.

Never bought
never needed
knock on wood
But that means I've saved like a couplefew hundred dollars on every Mac I've ever bought and that money would easily pay for the repair or even a brand new machine if something tragic were to happen. Somebody mentioned investing the money instead and that seems like an excellent idea. Whatever. It's just a gamble and in the long run the house always wins. Apple is making bank on Applecare.

Yeah, I bet they pull in a pretty penny. No complaints with mine though. Sometimes it will whine when the screen is dimmed, but thats not very often.

Re: AppleCare....awww crap.
I've had my Mac Pro for 6 months now and I definitely plan on getting Apple Care within the next 6 (which is how long I have left to do so.)
I'd feel pretty stupid if something DID happen to my Mac on the 366th day I owned it and didn't have the added insurance of Apple Care.
