Ants live in my apple
Well, I just noticed tiny ants coming out of my mini mac. I think they are living in there. My friend had a stereo that was damaged cause ants made a home in it. I better take care of this right now.

Re: Ants live in my apple
You may need to vacuum your mac out, if they have set up shelter there.
put a little of that ant killer stuff in there.

That might not be a good idea. Ant killers are designed to attract ants and kill them, not repel them.

Re: Ants live in my apple
I had a small colony of sugar ants living in my iBook G4 last summer when I was abroad in Costa Rica. Every time I turned it on and they got hot they went running out of there. I never bothered to do anything with it (didn't have the resources when I was there anyway) and my iBook is still just fine. *shrug*

Re: Ants live in my apple
I'd stay away from ant killer. It's designed for them to suck it up and then bring it back to the nest to share, where they all die. I wouldn't want ants to bring a bunch of food/junk into my computer, let alone themselves.

My iMac has been running 24/7 for quite a few days with F@H, and is only warm to the touch.
Not sure how bad the Mini will be.

Never had ants in a computer before.
I thought you decided to be original and turn a compact mac into an ant farm opposed to a fish tank.

And vacuuming creates tons of harmful static electricity.

What's the minimum storage temperature of a mac mini? I say freeze them in your freezer, then give the mac a shake to empty it out.

Re: Ants live in my apple
Minis run pretty cool. I'm thinking you should pop the cover, blast it out with compressed air, and then 1) Wash the surrounding area with ammonia to distrupt the hormone trails (Anybody know anything that will work better than ammonia?) 2) put a layer of flypaper down around the machine. Like a moat. 3) Put some bait/traps outside that.
Lie in wait and watch the carnage.

Want to try a neat trick? Apparently ants will follow the scent of the ink from a ball point pen. Just get a few pieces of paper and line them up leading away from the computer, and draw a line out from the vents (and into a deadly trap, like a hungry turtle).

Costa Rica's abroad?
1. in or to a foreign country or countries: famous at home and abroad.
2. in or to another continent: Shall we go to Mexico or abroad this summer?
Costa Rica is abroad in the first sense if you live in (for example) the US, but not abroad in the second sense if you're home is in north or south america.
Of course, then you have to figure: which continental plate is Costa Rica on...
I usually hear people using the first definition. My university had "study abroad" programs that went to Mexico, for instance.

Based on the findings of the report, my conclusion was that this idea was not a practical deterrent for reasons which at this moment must be all too obvious.

Ants have been known to cause power failures b/c they create shortages with their bodies. You might wanna hurry up and get those ants out before they get to your power supply.

Take the cover off, place the mini in your freezer for awhile, take it out, turn it upside down and shake the frozen ants out.
