Turn a non-iPod boombox into a Podbox?
I have a Sony boombox that was made before iPods came out (we're talking circa 1999). I play my 'Pod through the line-in jack. I'm wondering if, with cables (I'm not too keen on the idea of taking this thing apart), I can turn this thing into a real 'Pod dock and charger?
I was thinking, perhaps if I got an iPod dock from Apple with the Apple Remote, and mounted the dock on; if they made a sort of adapter that could split a USB connection into two separate into two USB ports, one could hook up to the line-in port, the other to a power brick.
Am I crazy or does this sound plausible?

the docks have a line out ... just plug that into your line-in with a 1/8th inch phono (headphones) to 1/8th inch phono cable ... and plug the dock connecter to usb cable into the dock and the usb part of the cable into an ipod wall charger (essentially a wall power to usb power adapter).

Sure, it's possible but maybe a little less so since you are "not too keen on the idea of taking this thing apart".
There are several players that have remote controls and are designed specifically for iPods, some of them for under US$100. Unless you are in this for the tinkerer's challenge, you might take a look at some of these players.

Cool. Thanks mrreet. D'Eyncourt, I was debating whether the savings would be worth that trouble, as I was planning on getting an Altec Lansing im600...
