Ancient Power Macintosh 7600 help needed

HELP!!

And with that said I need the Apple part # for the battery cage/enclosure for a Power Macintosh 7600. The Apple PDF with the exploded view does NOT show the battery cage/enclosure, hence the question. confused

I know, I know it's a dinosaur, but it's still running Tiger with G4 card, 1GB RAM, PCI slots maxed (IDE, USB/FW400 card and ATI 128MB video) and other goodies externally. That's probably why I can't afford a new one. cry

Thanks for any help that can be provided. smile

Why do you need the cage? If you have broken off the connectors somehow you are screwed because those are part of the motherboard and arent a "part" you can get.
If I remember right you have the base, which has the clippy dealieo that you press the battery into then a non-necessary plastic cage that snaps over the battery.
If you broke the part the battery snaps into you are looking at a new MoBo.

Nope, all of the battery holder part is there. For some reason the battery has popped out twice and screwed up the clock and some other settings. The connectors are good, it's just the cage that is missing and I though that might be the cure.

Then I would suggest tape. not something thermal sensitive like electrical tape, get some steel tape to hold that battery in place.
Or to get really ugly just glue a new battery in place, that ought to set you up for a good 3 years.

Yeah, a little blob of hot melt glue should hold it in. Or RTV silicone. Or caulking. Maybe a wad of gum. Lots of possibilities.

Yeah - sounds like something wrong with the clip - the cage should be unnecessary.

I must say, it's nice to have somebody come in here to ask a question who's already read the tech manual. Good for you.

BTW, how well goes the G4 7600 run Tiger?

Based on the findings of the report, my conclusion was that this idea was not a practical deterrent for reasons which at this moment must be all too obvious.

Re: Ancient Power Macintosh 7600 help needed

Thanks to every one who's responded to my query. I've always known the Mac community to be full of helpful users, from Day One back in 1988 when I got a Mac Plus I've received nothing but help from ANY Mac user I've asked a question or needed help from.

To respond to a few of the comments, here are my resopones:
1. Tiger on my 7600: Runs for the most part great, though a tad slow at times. I use ExPostFacto for the install and to switch back to OS 9.1. I am going to give OS9Helper a shot and see if I can get 9.22 on it so I will have a better version of Classic for all the apps I've not had the money to purchase all over again, and they are numerous.

2. The Service Manual: Although I sometimes profess that the instructions are the last refuge of cowards, I am a BIG believer in RTFM, and after 11+ years of selling Macs I know where to look for answers, at least most of the time. It also helps to know who and where to ask as well. The Service manual for my 7600 has come in handy more than once. It's amazing how many parts are still out there for similar models with the same footprint and hardware inside, like the 7300, 7500 and the WGS7350. I'm also not afraid now to tear into it myself and do the interior upgrading, such as memory, PCI cards, HDs and power supply.

Thanks again to all who responded, I appreciate all your comments and help very much.

Steve
