overall I love winter the cool crisp air, the way the trees look right after it snows
the only thing I hate is when there is a lot of snow to shovel.

Glare ice on sidewalks or the road is a prime enemy.    This week, I'm on the losing end.  It's a bear to keep our house entrance safe.   Its time to break out the salt.

Right now I'm not thrilled with winter. That may change in a few days but I'm not betting on it.

Winter? I don't mind it. Three weeks of clouds, two days of rain and then I'm back to flipflop-wearing weather.

Re: Winter: love it or hate it?

I hate winter.  Grey skies, grey ground, brown trees, 8 hours of sunlight (which is, thanks to having travelled through 2 miles of constant cloud cover, also grey) at the most.  Who the smurf likes that depressing smurf?  I moved to Florida for a reason.  While our nonchanging weather can be a little boring, it's better than being depressed 8 months of the year.

Re: Winter: love it or hate it?

Winter is the best time of year. as a matter of fact I went in search of the endless winter a few years back. traveling to the south and then back up top for a year and a half of winter bliss.

summer sucks because there is no snow on which to go snowboarding.

What?  I was just providing a conversion for those that did not know how.

If you want to disagree with my preference for the non-Winter we have here at the beach in SoCal, that's fine.

Re: Winter: love it or hate it?

Pretty much hate it.

A new fallen snow has its appeal, but it's usually short lived.

Shnicky made an interesting observation that winter is easier to like in a rural setting.
Having lived in both New Hampshire and NYC I'd be inclined to agree.

The odd thing is, that in NYC the average person spends more time out-of doors than their NH counterpart.

We had friends from NH pay us a visit a few winters ago. Even though they come from the snowier, colder North, they were unprepared for the amount of pedestrian activity that the New Yorker takes on.

I also hate the problem of bundling up to go outdoors, get to a destination that has it's heat on 75 degrees so I sweat like crazy only to go out again. Keeping track of hats/gloves/scarfs is something I'm slightly better at now than when I was 5.

Though I pretty much hate winter, I do do love the aforementioned new fallen snow. I also LOVE late winter/early spring snow melt. I always make a point of getting out to the country/mountains to tramp around the woods in mud season.

Re: Winter: love it or hate it?

I don't like winter. I don't like the cold. And if it doesn't snow enough to close the roads and every body get snowed-in, then I'd rather not deal with the slush and the salt and the stupid drivers keepin' the ER busy.

I do, however, love autumn. The clear, sparkling light is amazing, and we had some very nice colors this year.

Me, the only time I like winter is in a rural setting. It's quiet and beautiful. But in a big city, with deadlines and schedules and a need to go here and there, it's a frigging drag. Drivers who, despite having grown up in Canada, don't know how to drive in the snow; pedestrians bumping into each other with their puffy-ass parkas; cold, nasty winds; wet feet; dark days with early sunsets.

That is to say, I hate winter. And I know I'm not alone in that.

I love winter, I love the cold dry air, I like having a gentle snowfall, I like the sense of quiet that envelops a city when it snows. I like being able to walk in the middle of roads during a snowstorm, because no one can be bothered to go out. I get a very "Zen" feeling during wintertime. However, I don't like sunny winter days, because those are friggin freezing, going below -20 usually, whereas if it's cloudy with a nice dusting of snow coming down I'm completely comfortable.

Oh and then there's ski season too, I loves mah skiin'.

minus 8 degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit?

does it really matter?  it's smurfing eight below!!!1!!one!!

in Celsius, it's just below freezing, and i believe 0ºC is equal to about 40ºF, therefore  0ºF is appx -40ºC, which is just almost bearable.

Umm, you got your conversions very mixed up there.

32F is 0 C which is the freezing point.
However they scale differently, only -40 C is -40 F, which is far from bareable. -8 C is around my favourite winter temperature.

(-8) degrees Celsius = 17.6 degrees Fahrenheit

I hate cold weather.  Snow included.  Nothing worse than being freezing and damp.  AHH

Bah, I say, bah!  Winter can lick my ass.

I'd rather sweat with minimal amounts of clothing on than have to wear twenty pounds in clothing just to feel slightly warmer than the air outside.

NOPE!
