search, i managed to figure out my avatar issues from some old old thread.  it had something to do with what you name it.

.gif vs .jpeg? I've already used that get-out-of-jail-free card.

He will need to use a gif as that is the one that he currently uses and is the first in alphabetical order.

Avatars are named after the member ID number and whatever format you used. Since he has already used a gif on the forum, the new one has to be a gif as well.

Yeah, what he said. If you tried jpg, try png instead.

Um, it's alphabetical, .gif was before .jpeg, so that's how I replaced my pic before.

no....name it something like aaa.jpg.  search for the thread

that was the first thing I tried.
oh, and I tweaked the contast:

I set your avatar to arkayn's GIF version, it seems to have worked.

It's not a one-time "get out of jail free" card.  It will work repeatedly; you just can't go up a level (from GIF to JPEG).  GIF over GIF works fine.

I remember the thread from last year, so knew what had to be done to get it to work properly.

You haven't quite grasped it.

When you upload any image it automatically renames itself to your user number and it's format.

Say you are user 12345 & upload a file called Jack.png. The file automatically becomes 12345.png. Johnny.jpg becomes 12345.jpg & John.gif becomes 12345.gif. Theres a bug in the software that makes it keep every uniquely renamed avatar file upload into the forums and use the one that occurs first alphabetically. Since alphabetically it goes 12345.gif > 12345.jpg > 12345.png, if you've ever uploaded a gif no jpg or png will appear. If you've avoided gifs it will use you most recent jpg if you've ever used one. If you've avoided gifs & jpgs you have the option of using pngs.
