iPod Classic or iPod Touch?

I'm really torn on this. Is the touch worth the extra $$$ or not. I have 30GB worth of music but I don't think I need all that music with me or do I... confused  I would appreciate any personal experiences anyone may have.  And yes I have went to a store and looked at both and I will probably have to again.

That's where I am torn at to carry all my music or not that is the question. Guess I just need to go to the Apple store after the holidays and play with them some more.

Re: iPod Classic or iPod Touch?

I was in the same situation. Thought about it for a few weeks and ended up going with the touch.
I'm very glad I did so, it's great, especially if you get installer and put on a bunch of extra goodies.

Re: iPod Classic or iPod Touch?

The touch is nice but personally it is too young. The only reason I'd take a touch right now over a classic is because I already have a 5th gen.

Re: iPod Classic or iPod Touch?

I like the Classic, but that's only because I'm greedy and like to have ALL my music with me at one time.

It's a tough call, that's for sure.

Same here. Guess I'm shooting for a high end Nano if I ever get an iPod.

Re: iPod Classic or iPod Touch?

The Touch is my first iPod. Waited forever to get a touchscreen one. It simply rules. When the classic was released I thought about getting the 160GB as that would be a great portable drive. I came to the conclusion that after Christmas I could find an old 80GB video to store all my music. Do you have a laptop? I have a macbook pro, however I use my Touch to check on things really fast as its " always on" in sleep mode. No need to wait on a bootup to check some email over wifi. If you dont have a laptop I say definitely get the Touch (16gb if you can swing it)

Re: iPod Classic or iPod Touch?

I have an iPhone, so obviously it would be silly for me to get a TOUCH too, but assuming I didn't have it, still think that I'd get the classic:

A) I am a film guy and although the screen on the Touch is MUCH better, having to move files back and forth all the time is not my scene, I want to have all my music and like 50 movies one device at all times.

B) The internet on the touch doesn't do much for me.  I only have WiFi at work and home (at least reliably, and when I go to a café that I know has WiFi I bring my computer) so the only places I can use the internet on it, I would most likely have a access to my computer...  so why use that little screen.

So for me, the better screen and internet aren't worth having one 10th of the space of a classic.  That being said the Touch is awesome, and I still desire it, I just probably wouldn't buy it when it came time to hand cash to Apple... but if it were Free wink

I do not have a laptop, I have a cell phone(LG Fusic) with web access which I use time from time and I know the touch uses WIFI which at work I would not be able to use, well that I am aware of anyways. Part of me wants to be a total music whore and have all my music and part of me wants the eye candy of the touch.

Re: iPod Classic or iPod Touch?

Well, when I bought my iPod (30gb 5th gen), I bought it because I could carry any and all of my music with me.  I didn't care about video at all.  Now, I have surpassed it's 30 gb limits, and have realized that out of all of the music on it, I really don't listen to even half of it.  Sure, I set it to shuffle and listen to what comes up, but I skip a lot more than I listen to.

The 8 gb Touch would be more than enough to satisfy what I want to listen to most of the time.  Sure, I could get the 80 gb Classic, but I really don't need it.  There's no reason for me to have 7500 songs everywhere (which is what I'm at right now).  That and the Touch is just 'effin cool.

Re: iPod Classic or iPod Touch?

There is no way I could live with out either my touch or my 60gig iPod video. So I have both and I am debating getting a nano or a shuffle for mowing because I don't like to take my good ipods out when I am doing yard work or biking.

Did they ever fix the screen on the Touch? Apparently, it wasn't as good as the iPhone's.

Yes, those issues were fixed very quickly and affected only a small number of iPod touches.

Re: iPod Classic or iPod Touch?

My 4G Pod died right after Christmas, and I thought about replacing it with an iPod Touch, but went with an 80 GB Classic instead.  Part of the reason was the price difference, but the rest was that I decided that the Classic and Touch are two different kinds of gadget -- the Classic is a media player, the Touch is the evolutionary descendant of the PDA -- and what I wanted was a media player.

Re: iPod Classic or iPod Touch?

Were there any changes to the iPod Touch after Macworld besides the new apps? Any hardware changes? I am starting to see some lower prices on iPod Touches without the new apps. For example, Target is now selling the 16G for 379.99 without the apps. So they are giving you the apps if you choose to buy them and a lower price if you don't. So, if it is the same device that is a deal. If there is any difference, that is not such a good buy.

I agree that the Classic and Touch are two different products, but owning both, I would say that the iPod Classic is a great music player, while the iPod Touch is a great media player.  Nothing beats the Classic/Nano design for navigating and storing music, but it falls way short of the Touch in media overall.  The bigger, crisper screen makes videos amazing on the Touch, and the ability to pinch your photos makes a great photo viewer.  Jailbreak your Touch, and you have an amazing device bordering on a light duty laptop, and now that they come in 32gb sizes, it should meet your storage needs, too.

If all you care about is easy navigation of music with a huge library, get the Classic.  If you want a rich media experience with greater flexibility, the Touch is the only way to go.

Re: iPod Classic or iPod Touch?

We bought our first iPod last fall: a refurb. previous generation Nano from the online Apple store.  Last weekend we bought an iPod Touch and  I  freaking LOVE it.  I can understand the argument about keeping ALL of one's music on an iPod but, come on, it is SO EASY to swap media into and out of an iPod, what does it matter?

The larger screen, the internet and email access, the widgets, etc, are what sold me on the Touch.
