iPhone hacked to work in Norway?
Well, I just bought an iPhone for the nephew of my wife's best friend. He lives in Norway and wants an iPhone really bad. His intention is to hack it so that he can use it with his SIM that he currently has. I will post back here to let you know about his success. Hopefully he will get it working and not have a $400 paperweight.
I wonder what version of the software it has on it since I know that earlier versions are easier to hack. Not sure if it means anything but the image on the cover does not have the iTunes icon.

It depends on where and when you bought it. If from Apple since about the time that the European models were released, then it is likely to have the current Bootloader which cannot unlocked (yet)--previously sold iPhones have an older Bootloader which can be unlocked even if they have had the 1.1.2 updater applied to them.

I specifically bought it from an AT&T store figuring that I would have a better chance of getting an earlier version. I'm really curious to know if the latest versions have the iTunes icon on the screenshot on the box because as I said this one does not.

Do you mean the YouTube icon?
In any case, I guess it depends on whether or not the AT&T store staff upgraded the firmware (I'm betting not).

1) The AT&T staff can't upgrade the firmware. It can only be done through iTunes by taking the iPhone out of the box and registering it. They have no reason to do that. However, it is possible that Apple is shipping them with the later firmware on them. Then it would just be a matter of when this one was actually manufactured.
2) No, this icon:

If I ever hit the lottery I may have enough time to be that dedicated to these forums. Until then I'll continue to use google images. That one was actually from Apple.
As it stands right now it is after 2am and I am up grading exams...

Interesting. I'll pass this information along. I just arrived in Norway last night and I'll be giving him his iPhone today. I'm sure he can't wait to unlock and start using it.

When I left Norway he had the phone unlocked to the point where he could use all of the applications and the Wi-Fi but he had not unlocked it for generic SIM card use yet. I will keep you posted when he does as to how he did it.
