Beer.

Ain't it wonderful?  I'm drinking Unibroue's La Fin Du Monde right now.  It's a Belgian style strong pale ale, and it is delicious. Only problem with it is it's 9%, so you can't drink too much of it.  Later I'll switch to Grandville Island's Lion's Winter Ale.  Nice and creamy.

What're  you all drinking these days?

Re: Beer.

Oooh. I love Fin Du Monde! Right now I'm drinking Broker's Gin and tonic. Sorry.

I drank a lot of UFOs this summer, but summer is waaay over now. I went to the Harpoon brewery in VT a few months ago and tried their new Brown Ale. That's good smurf. A friend of mine bartends at a local dive on Thursdays and it's the kind of place where you don't want to risk drinking anything that's run through their lines and taps so I find High Life pretty smurfing tasty when it's free. Lessee...I think I now prefer Smithwicks to Guinness. Newcastle bombers are pretty irresistible when I see them in the local packy case. Can't remember the last time I drank a beer from a can ('cept Guinness, of course). Baseball's over so $6.50 10oz bud light season is over, thank Dog. Hmmm...yeah. That about covers it. Back to the gin.

Re: Beer.

Piss water. Can't stand the stuff.

Every once in a while, I'll think I'm eating something that goes with beer, so I'll get a beer, then I remember why I don't drink beer. Or any other alcohol, for that matter.

But hey, that's just me. shrug

Don't apologize.  I'll probably switch to g&t when all my beer is gone.

Coors Light?!  http://homepage.mac.com/oatmeal/MAF/maxes/twitch.gif

I am a big fan of German biers, Paulaner & Spaten more specifically.  Orange beer.

But when I am home having a beer I drink Summit EPA or their Winter Ale when it's in season (like now, there's one sitting right by my right hand. :sips:).  Not everybody likes it, but that keeps people from swiping my beers at parties.  big_smile

Re: Beer.

last night i was supposed to be getting PBR in tap. but the barperson was... a dolt, to put it lightly. so i got Flying Dog all night for $1.50/pint.

lately, i've been sticking with Guinness, plain and simple. especially on our Thirsty Thursday Pint Night at the local pub.

the wife and i have also been working our way through the Sam Adams Holiday Brews. we're still got Old Fezziwig (which we got to enjoy on tap, straight from the brewery this summer), Cranberry Lambics, and Holiday Porters.

but yeah. this household is almost strictly a Sam Adams household.

suck it, trebek.

Nothing as of a couple of days ago. I just got punched in the face with some issues that may destroy my family (wife and children - I'm in PAIN) due to my stupidity with drinking to excess, among other things. Been going to AA every night, am in counseling and have quit all substances, even pot.

Re: Beer.

On a hot summers day, as long as it's ice cold and not "lite", not Coor's, Schlitz or a Miller product I am happy.
Truth be told I think old fashioned regular Bud red label is one of the best summer time cooler beers.
In winter I am more of a Jack Daniels and ice water chaser kinda guy.

Re: Beer.

Here I like Pilsner Urquell. It's especially good on tap from the place which is luckily only a block from my flat.

When in Canada I like Big Rock Traditional Ale. But there are soo many amazing micro brews to choose from there.

I also like Kingfisher (Indian) and Cobra (Indian Style from UK).

Edit: Oh yeah and Guiness Extra Cold when in the UK.

Re: Beer.

One year I got hold of some Pabst dark - may have been a bock.

It was quite a unique experience. I snuck a few bottles into a theater for a screening of Holy Grail; the first time I saw the flick.

Re: Beer.

I don't drink.

But I wonder what the most pretentious beer might be.

I recall that there was an old standard beer in Canada called Carling Black label. It was supposed to be an old timer's choice in legion halls. Then I think it was in the 80's it got the re-branding treatment by some or other ad agency, and was promoted as an artsy beer for the alternative crowd; black turtlenecks, aloof women, gallery openings and other high society/high art trappings.

I think the promo worked insamuch as it supposedly rescued the sales of a tired old brand. I don't know for how long. Funny how that works.

Oh god, Keystone has to be one of the worst smurfing beers in existence. Unlike many of the major domestics, which are incredibly bland and tasteless, Keystone just tastes bad. If it comes down to drinking keystone or not drinking at all, I will not drink; probably one of the few beers it will come down to that for me.

Re: Beer.

I got a six of Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout in the fridge.
No actual Chocolate in the brew, just certain "chocolate-like " esters given off -it is a very "big" beer, a very, very nice Imperial Stout.

I'm about 2 miles from their brewery, and Brooklyn Lager, Pennant ale and seasonals are often in my fridge.

Had some Duvel and Orval last night, also a belgian Holiday Beer (Noel) whose brand name I have forgotten. Good stuff.
In winter I favor the stronger heavier ales, stouts and porters. Always love IPA, especially ones of the "California" style -almost too hoppy.

Guinness is always a staple. One of the finest beers ever. Big flavor, relatively low calories. One of the few beers that is both refreshing in summer and warming in winter.

Summer time I go for German and Czech style Pilsners.
I used to be crazy about Hefe Weizen, but lost my fondness for it in recent years -though I did have a schneider's recently. If you like Hefe Weizen, get yourself sme Schneider's, you'll like it.

Unibroue makes very nice belgian style beers as does Brewery Ommegang of Cooperstown.

I wish there were more english cask-conditioned "Real ales" available in the US. There really is nothing quite like it.

All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me.

Re: Beer.

Mostly local brews at the house right now:

-Lefthand Sawtooth is always a staple
-Chocolate Stout from Fort Collins Brewery
-Odells 90 Shilling

and of course some Guinness because it's a good brew in the winter http://www.long-boy.com/images/smileys/guinness.gif

This week I'm super stoked to be going to a Holiday Party at the local Gordon Biersch. drool

Re: Beer.

The lefthand milk stout is pretty excellent also.

I had a double bastard by stone brewery last night, and the rogue chocolate stout is pretty good. I'm kind of a beer snob. I dont know why you would limit yourself to smurfy watery beer.
Other than that, we just went through a log of smuttynose gnome at the bar i work at. only place in the area to have it as we bought it on presale. its a belgian ipa, so if you know your beer id reccommend you trying it.
