Beer is for people who like the taste of alcohol.

Beer is the least alcohol-ey tasting alcoholic drink I can think of.

Re: Beer.

My favorite winter beer was this Maple Porter made by Wicked Pete's which they stopped making years ago. Sooo good, especially with a nice Boca burger with cheese, Morningstar breakfast strips, and Bull's Eye BBQ suace. Oh well, Guinness it is then.

Three weeks ago we got a case of various Woodchuck apple ciders; good stuff too.

Right now I've got a glass of Silk Nog with a nice healthy dose of rum and brandy.

We tend to drink Guiness in the winter.  I kind of like that Sam Addams holiday pack, but the Cranberry Ale is just too tart for me.
I like Duval and some of the others mentioned here, but they're not available out here in the sticks.

Every once in a while, I'll think I'm eating something that goes with beer, so I'll get a beer, then I remember why I don't drink beer. Or any other alcohol, for that matter.

But hey, that's just me. shrug

Beer is gross.  The only time I can drink it is when I'm eating pizza, it's ice cold, and I'm preparing for a belch contest.

All other alcoholic times I stick with either wine or mixed drinks.  The other night I stumbled on cognac and coke.  VERY tasty.

Some beers are only made seasonally. Plus, some beers are pretty heavy, and in the summer, a lighter beer is more refreshing, imo.

I just feel like a nice heavy stout or richer beer is called for when its cold out, and a nice refreshing pilsner, lager or IPA in the summer

That's a problem? Seriously, everyone I know who tastes Brooklyn's Local 1, a belgian style bottle fermented local brew that is only brewed at the brewery in Brooklyn, is addicted to it like crack. And since it's 9% also, every other beer that isn't now just seems lightweight in alcohol content, which is great because it means I can now drink more beer. And if any of you haven't tried Local 1, you should unless you're one of the beer haters here how shouldn't have even posted or you just don't like the belgians.

Nothing as of a couple of days ago. I just got punched in the face with some issues that may destroy my family (wife and children - I'm in PAIN) due to my stupidity with drinking to excess, among other things. Been going to AA every night, am in counseling and have quit all substances, even pot.

Good luck with that.  You can do it and life will turn around.  I'll pray for you tonight.

Hmm.

I'll have to try it again.
I picked up a bottle of it when it first arrived and was pretty dissapointed.
I usually love all the seasonal and specialty brews Garret Oliver has come up with. (he makes the best bavarian style Hefe Weisen and Imperial stout in the US -I've known of his brewing prowess since his days at Manhattan Brewery in the early '90s).
I think value wise, Ommegang's Rare Vos or any one of the Unibrouwe (sp?) put out much better Belgian style tripels.

Re: Beer.

Well, I like beer very much and could drink it a lot. big_smile
Not long ago I've been in Berlin and Amsterdam. Much beer was drunk.
In Berlin I liked Berliner, Shofferhoffer, Beck's Gold. In Amsterdam - Heineken, Amstel, Duvels (great one), Hoegarden (last two are Belgian).
In Russia we have rather good beer. But if it is new one it is good, later it becomes worse.
I've heard that Hoegarden is produced only in Belgium and Russia? Hard to believe. Is it right? confused

Re: Beer.

I drink too much and too often to drink high calorie beer. Miller Lite has been my beer for the last 15 years.

Although, while I was in Scotland I drank Tennent's and Guinness the entire time. When I got back I popped open a Lite and it tasted like crap. Somehow or another it only took a few to "get used to it again". Oh, well.

Where in MD are you?  Anywhere near Balto and it's worth it to make a trip to the Brewer's Art.  They make some Belgian style beers that are excellent and I'm not even a huge fan of Belgian-styles.  I believe a couple of their beers (like my favorite, the Resurrection Ale) are available in other area bars.

I'm actually in Montgomery County. Not far from DC or Baltimore. Almost in the middle. We used to go down to the Inner Harbour and Fells Point all the time, maybe catch a game at Camden. All kinds of good beer and food down there!

I really like the taste of Micro-Brews and imports- just too many calories. I drink beer like some drink tea, water or sodas. I never seem to get drunk, which is good because that's not really my goal. I like the flavor of beer. Plain and simple. And I can still maintain all functions.

Oh- and I do not drink liquor or wine. Unless it's a single malt scotch and then ony one or two with a couple cubes and a few drops of water. I found I liked it very much while I was in Scotland a few months ago and got to visit The Glennfiddich.

Guiness Draught has very few more calories than miller light, and actually at least has some flavour.
