So........UPS hate?
Has anyone ever received this when tracking a box?
MERCHANDISE IS MISSING. UPS WILL NOTIFY THE SENDER WITH ADDITIONAL DETAILS. / ALL MERCHANDISE MISSING, EMPTY CARTON WAS DISCARDED. UPS WILL NOTIFY THE SENDER WITH DETAILS OF THE DAMAGE
That was an order from Amazon with half of my family's gifts.

Keep on that, harass the hell out of them. If you ignore it, they may just do the same.

Amazon will resend if you notify them.
At least they have with me in the past on a couple different occasions with some undelivered books.

That bit about the box being discarded bothers me. It happened to one of the shipments our company made. It just seems like they are hiding something when they don't sent the box back to you.

Don't like UPS and won't use them if I can help it.
Good luck. I hope you can get your stuff for Christmas.

Did you find out what happened in your situation?
That kind of makes it sound like one of their guys stole it.

Yep, Amazon rectified with a replacement order. The nice Indian phone guy even upgraded the shipping to make sure it gets here by Christmas.

Re: So........UPS hate?
Yeah, I've always hated UPS. I've gotten stuff damaged from them before. Also, they have an annoying habit of just leaving packages on our front steps without even knocking or ringing the bell. I work from home, and I've been home all day before, and gone outside in the evening to find a package in front of my door. I know damn well the guy didn't ring the bell, because I was home all day. Now, whenever possible, I try to add a requirement for a signature on anything that will be shipped via UPS.

It was a custom print job being sent to Florida and not something anyone would want to steal. It probably got crushed in the UPS equipment.

equipment purchased from B&H Warehouse as christmas gifts: $300+
next day air via UPS: $30+
wasting a whole smurfing day waiting for them to show up because its the last day off you have before christmas and if you miss signing for it in person you won't get it, even though it was promised to be delivered by 10.30am: priceless.
suck it, trebek.

I always have UPS ship to work. There's always someone there to sign for it and I have no worries that I won't get it.

i used to when i wasn't so far away from work and i drove a much more fuel-efficient vehicle.
now the opposite is true of both: work is a nice haul up the road from me, and i now drive an SUV.
edit: just as an update, its still not here. i'm REALLY pissed off.

UPS sucks period. If I ever become a billionaire, I'm going to do a hostile takeover of the company and then run it into the ground somehow.

You'd have to have a lot more than a billion measly bucks. This is UPS we're talking about, here. They have a market cap of $74 Billion.
finance.yahoo.com ftw.

UPS, FedEx, USPS, whoever - They move a few million packages a day each. The FedEx Groud facility near here has a plaque on the wall - they set a record a couple winters ago by handling 3 Million packages in a day at one location. Christmas rush.
FedEx Handles about a billion packages a year (3.5M/day * 365)
UPS Handled 3.75 Billion Packages in 2005.
The USPS Handles 213 Billion pieces of mail.
According to wikipedia, FedEx Express has a successful/ontime delivery score of 99.98%. If we assume that's typical for the industry, (and frankly, I think that's generous) then with 217 Billion packages, parcels, letters, etc., delivered per year, that's 43 million smurfed up deliveries per year.
If these guys are accurate It's at least 2% screwed up, not 0.02% screwed up. 4.3 BILLION late packages a year... that's one per month for every man, woman, and child in the USA.
But 98% is still an 'A'.

i know you're only passing along information, but my wife said the same thing, so my response will be the same here: "treat every customer as if they are your top priority, in everything you do, whether its phone service, face-to-face service, or whatever else."
because i still feel that i'm getting smurf on by UPS. i paid an exorbitant amount of money to ensure my package would be here, on my day off, while my wife wasn't here, and now i have to drive out to the local hub to pick it up tomorrow.
there's no good solution. if i had more money, i would've shopped local and not worried about shipping, but... there's the rub, aye?

When everyone is super, then no one will be.
Statistically, something's got to give, and you're no more important than anybody else. I try not to get too pissed off just because it's my turn. Look out a window, eat a piece of pie, and be in awe of the universe.

Yup. I miss CompUSA. I actually do shop local for a lot of stuff.
Getting "shat upon" by corporations is kind of how it works these days, although I think that's a bit harsh - they really didn't go out of their way to screw with you. I mean, it's not like a credit card company - there's a finite amount of money they can make off of any single transaction.
You are probably entitled to a shipping refund. It's your word against the driver's, and UPS hates refunds, but it's worth a shot if principles are your thing.

Re: So........UPS hate?
hell, i was talking more local than that. its an independent little pro camera equipment outfitter. great staff, incredibly knowledgeable, fantastic selection, and my wife used to work there. but i just couldn't justify paying almost $150 more for the same flash, diffusers, and bouncers that i found on B&H. i love supporting indies when i can (my mom helps run the last indie bookseller back home in montgomery), but money talks a little louder sometimes.
anywho, there's no real driver here in this case. when it was supposed to be on a truck, here in birmingham, alabama, on wednesday, it was sitting at the hub in lexington, kentucky.
whatever the case may be... you've just made me realize that the guy on the other end of the phone line said it was their fault. i suppose i should've asked for a refund then and there, but its odd he didn't offer one. i'm supposed to call in the morning to ensure its at the hub before i make the trek down there. i suppose i'll bring it up then if i'm up to it. i'm still quite peeved about it but am beginning to cool off.
edit: jesus, i need to change my user picture.

Re: So........UPS hate?
i honestly believe they are trying to drive me certifiably insane.
last night we made arrangements to have it held at the hub. i got up ay 7am to call and check, and what do i find out...?
its on a truck for delivery.
"oh, but it'll be there by 10.30am, sir!"
"no, it won't! it wasn't here yesterday by 10.30am, and it won't be here today by 10.30am, because no one will be here to sign for it even if it IS here by 10.30! why was it sent on a truck when i spent ten minutes waiting for a request to be put in to hold it? could you check that please?"
"we never got a request, sir."
"thanks. goodbye."
so the saga continues. no one will be here today to accept delivery. hopefully i can get home from work quick enough today i'll be able to place a call and have them hold it when it returns to the hub this evening.
this is just outSTANDing.
suck it, trebek.
