Stupid Blockbuster
SO I get this E-Mail today:
Hi Jonathan,
As a BLOCKBUSTER Total Access™ subscriber, it's always easy to have the right movie during this holiday season with more than 75,000 titles, including great new releases like Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Bourne Ultimatum and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
We know that during this busy time of year the convenience of BLOCKBUSTER Total Access is especially important to you. Have your movies delivered right to your door. If you want new movies right away, exchange in-store*. And with free shipping both ways and no late fees, it's easy to enjoy all the movies you want for as long as you want.
To continue to bring you the unmatched convenience of both online and in-store DVD rentals, your monthly subscription fee will change from $24.99 to $34.99. This adjustment† will go into effect on your next billing cycle on or after December 27, 2007. The benefits of your subscription plan will remain the same.
And now check out blockbuster.com where you can view exclusive footage from The Great Debaters, the much anticipated new movie starring Denzel Washington that opens in theaters on Christmas Day. This is just another example of how BLOCKBUSTER® is working to bring you exciting new entertainment features.
There are plenty of long winter nights ahead, so make sure that your Queue is filled with all the movies you want to watch next including new movie releases coming in January 2008, such as 3:10 to Yuma, The Game Plan and Saw IV.

Re: Stupid Blockbuster
No I'm going to end it and I'm thinking about joining Netflix just to get the 120 or so titles I have at Blockbuster and then I'll be done with any online movie renting.

10 bucks??? That's insane. I was with blockbuster for a short while, then switched back to netflix.

I have the unlimited in store exchange, but the way they are sending me movies now it's pissing me off. My 3 movies are coming in 1 day at a time.

Re: Stupid Blockbuster
Usually in the summer or long breaks I have an account open in each so I can hand in movies in-store, but when I'm in school I just stick with Netflix. They've always done well by me.
Alright, now, who wants to be transistorized?

Dump BlockBuster. They're a dead company struggling to survive in a changing world and failing miserably.

Re: Stupid Blockbuster
Mine went up $2 (17.99 to 19.99). I think I'll manage. Although according to the email:
The benefits of your subscription plan will remain the same...and it's a value of $34.99!
Yippee for perceived benefits!

I will continue to borrow movies from my brother in law... for free. With a library approaching 600 titles, he usually has what I want to see.

Re: Stupid Blockbuster
Yeah, Time Warner sent me a letter last year telling me that they have good news for me: They won't increase my rates for another year!
It then told me my rates would go up $10/month in 2008. There goes my movie channels...I'm up to $120/month as it is (including $40 for ISP).
Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.

Re: Stupid Blockbuster
Yeah, cable is way too expensive. I'm thinking of dropping it for something else when we move into a house next year.

Re: Stupid Blockbuster
I actually installed DISH for a month. But once I got the bill I realized it was just as expensive. The only cheap thing is Basic, Broadcast, .....or BT.
(maybe one of those download services - they won't work with my Mac, though)

Re: Stupid Blockbuster
Between Broadcast HDTV, Netflix, and services like Joost and Hulu, I don't really see the need for cable. But I don't watch much television to begin with.

I like Netflix because none of my friends have the movies I want to see. I watch mainly foreign films and Netflix has an easily accessible and large library for me to choose from.

I'm fortunate that he's a self-admitted movie snob, so he only has movies worth seeing.

That's really subjective.

He also reviews movies on a part time basis.
