My first car was a green '74 slant 6 Duster. A feather duster performance-wise.
I now have a 2006 Jetta GLI (6 speed manual), that I'm very happy with.

Picked up a 1992 Ford Tempo GL yesterday for $475. That's my newest car.

Re: What was your first and last vehicle?
First car that I drove (I never claimed ownership and publically announced that I wish someone would steal it): 1987 Plymouth Reliant K stationwagon.
It didn't just suck the cool out of you, it sucked the cool out of every car that drove past it. It was originally used as a postal car and didn't even have a radio. The back windows didn't even roll down. If you quickly accelerated, smoke would billow out of the exhaust. Some people thoght that it was nice to have a car with a built in "smoke screen". It died the day after I bought my first vehicle. My brother thinks the transmission went bad. Personally, I think it lost its will to live.
My first car: 1987 Pontiac Grand Am: Two door coupe model. I called it my "Hot Wheels color change car". Depending on the time of day, It wither looked pink, beige/tan or white. I purchased this when I was 20 and found it strange that my monthly payment was less than my monthly car insurance payment.
Three years later I "upgraded" to a 1992 Pontiac Grand Am. This car was blue no matter what the time of day was. I drove this car around until I decided to try my hand at buying a brand new vehicle.
This was also my first truck. I got a shiny redish colored 1998 Chevy S-10. It wasn't that I shouldn't have bought this truck, it was that I approached it all wrong. No matter what my inital thought was (small, no options, hard ride, etc), I would think but it is new and it smells pretty. The new car smell is evil. I decided that I would never buy a new car again.
That was until I became totally frustrated with driving the thing. I knew I was going to take it in the shorts, but just three months of ownership, I traded up to a 1998 Chevy S-10. Yep. Still new. But this was tricked out and it was blue. It almost made up for paying for 50% off the value of the previous vehicle. I drove this one the longest. Mainly because it cost so much. But after about six years, my father-in-law bought it from me.
I then purchased a 2004 Saab 9-3. What's that you say? Yes, it was new also. This was my favorite car. My wife currently drive this one andwe use it as the family car.
Just one year after that, I purchased a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I almost got another Saab (It would've been blue. I had it all picked out when I realized that I needed a "beefier" vehicle for work.) It was Silver. I used this vehicle for work and the ability to trudge through the mud and haul things has been very beneficial.
But my current vehicle is a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Nope that isn't a typo. I get a monthly allowance from work to pay for this vehicle. About two years after I got the first one, I traded it for a blue one. It had 16k fewer miles and was a nicer trim level. Didn't cost me anymore or change how long I was going to be paying for it. So hey, why not? It did mean that for the first time in a decade, I bought a used vehicle.
I never had any problems with any of them. They all served me well and I gave them good gas and new oil. But, I do hope the "new vehicle curse" is fully out of my system.
It also appears that I purchase vehicles in pairs and that the second one is always blue.

I have a near mint condition '83 T-bird Heritage edition. Bought new in '83, fully loaded.

1979 Datsun 510 I loved this car and wish I still had it.
1998 Dodge Neon liked it but shouldn't have bought it at the time
1993 Ford Escort it really belonged to my father but I was the only one driving it
1982 Subaru GL paid $100 for it and drove it a year with no problems then sold it for $250
1987 Subaru DL drove it for 2 years then gave it to my sister
1992 Subaru Loyal rust got to this one so we donated it to charity for a tax credit.
2003 Subaru Impreza just bought this on halloween and love it

Re: What was your first and last vehicle?
1976 Chrysler Newport - Piece of smurf. I was thrilled when it barfed a connecting rod.
1976 AMC Hornet Wagon - I didn't like it at the time but I needed something cheap right away when the Newport died. Looking back it actually wasn't that bad. Lots of hiding space for 5 cases of beer and a couple 26ers so it was a good summer drive-in movie car.
1977 Chrysler Cordoba - Piece of smurf. But I needed something cheap right away when the Hornet burned. I was thrilled when it died.
1982 Datsun 200 SX - The best car I have owned. Tiny and cramped but RWD with the engine/trans/rear end from a truck. It never died, I just reached a point where I was embarrassed to drive something that looked so rough.
1991 VW Golf Diesel - It was probably a good little car once upon a time but it was pretty tired when I bought it in '99. I crashed it in 2002 and did enough cosmetic damage for it to be written off. It still runs but it looks like smurf and the trip home from work on Dec 17 was the last time it will ever move under its own power - 30 km downhill in a blizzard with no brakes was just what I needed after 12+ hours fighting the Italian machine.
With any luck I get a new(er) slightly less used vehicle tomorrow. Otherwise the old 12 speed will be good exercise if a tad chilly this time of year. Can't be any slower than the Pink Panzer though.

Re: What was your first and last vehicle?
My first car was a truck. A 1973 Toyota Hilux pick-up with a 1980-something Monte Carlo V-6 crammed in it, to be almost exact. Man, that thing would fly.
My current car is a 2007 inferno red Dodge Magnum R/T. Yes, it has four doors; and yes it is a station wagon, but the HEMI is so sweet. I get 25 MPG highway too.
I've had several cars in between those two, but my favorite has to be the 1973 Pontiac Firebird with a Chevy 350. I had no a/c and the exhaust came up through the floorboard when idling, but I loved that freaking car.

It was a really, really, really nice car (only had 24,000 on it when my folks sold it in 95) but we had no where to store it before I got my license and could drive it. That made me so mad because I got stuck with the Caprice instead which was my other grandma's car and nowhere near as good condition.

If it makes you feel any better: my grampa had a lot of cars at his farm, a few of which worked excellent. unfortunately he died and my uncle got them all, and I'll be getting my license probably in 4-5 months.

Ditto... new Golfs, Polos, Eurovans Passats etc are just fancy whitegoods to me... albeit very nice fancy whitegoods in the case of the latest Passats.
I would really like to get hold of a VW T3 Vanagon Syncro at some stage, but the money they still pull in is unbelievable... minimum $7000AUD for a basic model without the optional diff locks!
A mate of mine in the VW scene over here (he's an avid wedge enthusiast) actually recently found one sitting in a paddock and bought it off the owner for $350... cleaned it up, welded in some new metal where some rust was starting, put in a new clutch and got 9000 bucks for it when he resold it. Spewin' that I didnt find it first cos I'd give me right testicle for one! They're one of the best four-wheel drive vehicles out theyre even if fuel milage sucks (effectively a 4-speed with crawler gear rather than a 5 like the 2WD)... they'll go just about anywhere.
To be honest I probably would settle for a 2WD T3 at least for a while... but one day...
Whatever happens it aint gonna be at the expense of the baywinda.. uh uh!
I was actually going to buy a nice Volvo 260 for $500 a while ago as there is something that appeals to me about the styling of old Volvos... but I couldnt find any real justification for spending my money on it (even tho it was cheap) when it was better spent on stuff for the the VW's... in hindsight I think I should have bit the bullet and stoppped making excuses for myself and just got it!

Re: What was your first and last vehicle?
First car: '71 Porsche 914.
I couldn't get it running by the time I got my license so the first car I drove was my my family's '55 Chevy we were fixing up.
I sold my Porsche after the engine seized.
Second car: '64 1/2 Mustang coupe 289 4-speed
Third car: '91 Mazda Miata
That car was so perfect for me. It was set on fire in front of my parents house just 2 weeks before I got married and moved out. Three other cars on our street had their windows busted out and gang signs carved in their paint jobs. Police figured it was a gang initiation.
Fourth car: '98 Toyota Corola
My wife's and my first car together
Fifth car: '01 Toyota Sienna minivan
My first brand new car ever. I had purchased the Miata and Corola at dealerships but they were both used.
Sixth car: '73 Porsche 914
Fixed it up with a stereo and new paint job. Drove it until it seized as well. (not a lot of luck with my 914's). I'm still holding onto it though. I'm saving up to do an engine conversion on it. I want to put a Chevy 350 in it. No, that was not a typo.
Seventh (and current) car: '05 Scion xB
I got it right of the shipping truck. It had 1 mile on it. By and far the best car I've ever owned. This little thing is so much fun. And it holds my whole family and gets great gas mileage.

1st car: '69 Chevy Belair- a beater that died on me.
2nd car: '73 Super Beetle- reliable cheap transportation for a long time
3rd car: '89 Dodge Raider- I loved this car and did tons of outdoor stuff with it. I wish I still had it except parts are getting scarce.
Present car: 03' Honda Element- probably the best car I have had mechanically. Maybe I'll go to a Scion xB.
