Except this forum isn't filled with car fanatics, it's filled with people who feel cars are tools, and not so much something to be enjoyed.  That, and people don't have the money for cars like that.

BTW, you should go w/German cars, instead of primitive American cars wink

If you can't enjoy driving your car, you've simply never the right one.  This is why I love my '68 Charger.  There simply is nothing that compares to the beauty of the car (IMO) and your first stab on the accelerator rewards you with a visceral sensation.

Re: What was your first and last vehicle?

First car: 1990 Chevy Cavalier Z24
It was a real big POS, but did go fast. That was its only strong point.

Currently: 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo which is my daily driver:
http://www.long-boy.com/images/WJ/wj_sideshot.jpg
It fits the family + dog on the trips, and I drive it about 20k miles a year. Gas sucks in it, unfortunately. But, it's paid for.

and my current project is a 1983 Jeep CJ7:
http://www.long-boy.com/images/11.25.2006RollinsPass/RollinsPass04.jpg
It runs, and runs great. Unfortunately, it also leaks quite a bit right now. I will be fixing leaks and replacing the carburetor this winter with fuel injection. It's awesome in the summer, and really smurfy in the winter. Fun as long as it's running big_smile

Re: What was your first and last vehicle?

I've never had my own car.  Main cars driven have been a Chrysler Concorde, Nissan Stanza, and Toyota Camry over the years, which all belong(ed) to my parents.

Looking into potentially getting a car sometime during the first half of this year though, but am still definitely in the reasearch phase.  I'll very likely get a Toyota or Honda though.

Re: What was your first and last vehicle?

1st- 1975 Chevy Impala, a boat on wheels
2nd- 1986 Mustang GT, was 17 when I got it, surprised I lived through it
3rd- 1988 Olds Cutlass Cierra, super reliable, died by tornado
4th- 1990 Chevy Corsica, total POS
Current- 1987 Mercedes Benz 260 E, had 69,000 original miles on when I bought it, owned by a little old lady who took meticulous care of it.  It's a great car.

Re: What was your first and last vehicle?

First: Silver 1990 Toyota Supra. I still remember seeing her in the grocery store parking lot.  I had many years of happiness in that car until the head gasket went.

Second: 1997 Toyota Corolla.  Reliable but pitifully underpowered.  I used to skip freeway onramps that were short because it took an hour to reach top speed.  Never let me down, though-and resale value was awesome.

Third: 2001 Nissan Frontier V6-SE.  Piss poor gas mileage, underpowered, mouse fur for upholstery.  I've always liked Nissans but we got rid of this truck because it caused us so much grief.  Good looking vehicle though.

Fourth: 1993 Volkswagen EuroVan.  What a quirky and loveable van.  The kids I nannied for have so many great memories of zoo trips, hikes, fishing, etc. tied to it.  It was horrendous to maintain and a broken ignition coil was the final nail it its coffin.

Fifth: Toyota Prius. What a fun and geeky car to have.  Felt in some ways like driving a Mac.  Until it went haywire on me.  Twice.  We started to call it the Microsoft car after that. It was my fault for buying one of the first ones off the boat from Japan. I just felt like I couldn't trust it anymore and the reason I drive very straightforward "boring" cars (like Toyotas) is to have no worries.  So we traded for....

Fifth: 2006 Scion tC, which is my husband's car.  He likes it quite a bit.  It's quick enough, good on gas, reliable, safe, all that.  I've been able to fit a twin sized matress in the back with the seats folded down. Overall very pleased.

Sixth: Toyota Camry LE.  Great all around car.  Comfy, reliable, quiet.  Nothing exciting at all.  It melted in our fire.  I still have the warped Toyota logo.

Seventh: My new baby, a 2004 Camry SE-V6.  She's a Camry, but she's pretty.  Exclusive engine to that trim, usually under the hood of a Lexus.  It's got all the trimmings and is *almost* a blast to drive. Most comfortable car I've owned and I'll drive it til the wheels fall off.

Re: What was your first and last vehicle?

I have had 2 cars before my current one.
1st: Audi A6 Avant 1995 year of issue. This car I got from my parents. Nice. Powerful. Big. I loved it very much. Sold it because I wanted something youth.
2nd: Audi A4 2002 year of issue. This car was a real problem. I've bought it in official dealer's store but it had a huge problem with engine. So i wanted to get rid of it. But the car is nice if it is without such problem.
3rd (current): Honda Civic VII 2004 year of issue. Excellent car! I am absolutely happy with this marvelous car!  Honda = reliability. It is true. Powerful. Attractive. Young style. For me.  smile

Re: What was your first and last vehicle?

1972 Ford Bronco: 3 in the tree, 351 Cleveland & monster mudder tires. Wish I still had it. sniff.

1974 Ford F150: 302 w/automatic. Nice beat up pick'em up truck. Had I hit that tree with anything else I doubt I'd be here posting.

1983 Pontiac Bonneville Station Wagon: 3.6 V6 fairly loaded. Complete with faux wood panels. 'Bonnie' was my punishment for totaling my truck. It was mom's car until the miles hit 200K. At that point it was turned over to the kids. Cool thing was shortly after I got it we replaced the engine with a 5.0 305. After that it became fun to drive. wink

1987 Pontiac Grand Prix SE: Not really mine but mom's and I only got to drive it when my sister needed 'Bonnie". Mom hated that car it didn't stay around for very long.

1990 Ford Ranger: 2.8 V6 5 speed, 4X4. My first new car. A graduation present even tho I got stuck with the $400 month payments. Note to parents: Not a good way to 'help' start off your kid's adult life. But I sure as hell wasn't whining about it back then. wink Sold it to my dad.

1992 Mercury Capri: 1.X 4 banger, 5 speed, convertible. Second new car. Lil 2 seater that was a blast to drive. Then the recession hit, lost job and couldn't keep it.

1985 Chevrolet Chevette: Only thing I could afford at the time. What a POS. I rebranded it the 'smurf'.

1989 Camaro RS: 5.0 305 auto. Nice, fun to drive. Sucked in the winter. wink Sold it so I could get...

1994 Camaro Z28: 5.7 V8 auto, fully loaded with t-tops. Third and last new car. OMG what a blast to drive. Fastest I've on the road was in this car. A year short of paying it off kids were on the way and it's not the best family vehicle. Traded it in for...

1995 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer. 4.0 V6, auto. 4X4, Fully loaded. Ah back to my Fords. Nice coming home to an old friend. Had this truck for 12 years and traded it in last May for...

2005 Ford F150 Lariat: Triton 5.6 V8, auto. Fully loaded, 4X4 and 4 full sized doors. Wasn't even really looking for a car. 'Eddie' was getting up there but still had some life left but the deal on this was too great to pass up. To date the best car I've owned in terms of ride and features. People get in it and can't believe they're riding in a truck. The ride and interior are better than my mom's '06 Cadillac. Heated seats! Heated freaking seats an option I'd never consider. That was until you have them. Yeah gas sucks but it gets better mileage than 'Eddie' did so there's a win.

Anyone else name thier cars? It's something me mums always done and damnit got me in the habbit of doing it too.

First: 1964 Ford Thunderbird.
Present: 2008 Subaru Legacy GT. (Expect to keep this one for quite a while. Like it. big_smile  )

In between: A 1980 Pontiac Firebird, A Dodge Pickup (Not so good) a Toyota Pickup. (Good. Would buy another if I wanted another truck) and two other Subes. I like Subarus. 'Nuff said.

The former was great on gas and very nimble, but a pain in the butt maintenance-wise. The latter is pure sex to drive but old and therefore finicky (not to mention very tricky in the snow).

First: 1994 Plymouth Voyager SE minivan. Really a great vehicle, all things considered. The only things that ever broke on it were the throttle position sensor and a transmission that took a dump. That was a bad one, but still, a great vehicle. It was amazingly fast, too.

Second: 2000 Toyota Celica GT. Another great car, but it spun out for some odd reason a week after a bought it. The insurance payed out more than we payed for it, though. I think I had a blowout on the rear tire, since that happened to me recently, and it was very similar. I caught the car this time, though.

Current: 1995 VW Golf Sport (basically the same as the later GTI 2.0, but with wicked striped seats and no glove compartment). I love this car. I bought some problems, but the only stuff that broke after I bought it was the seat bracket (still need a new one, she's wobbly) and the sunroof, which doesn't open all the way anymore.

My VW's name is Der Alpengeist.

The new VW's seem a bit better than the Mark III and IV's. The Rabbits and GTI's should be fine, because they come from Wolfsburg again now.

They're too big, though. I want a Polo. C'mon, VW, we don't need a Passat coupe, we need a small, efficient, affordable car.

I have no glove compartment either.  1995 I think was the first year they added front airbags and decided there was no room for a glovebox, only to decide in 1997 that there was indeed room for a glovebox.

My sunroof is still going strong but I hear about the sunroof motor going out all the time on these.  Basically all kinds of electrical issues with the mk3's, as I'm sure you know.

I'd kill for a Wolfsburg actually from wolfsburg, my  Jetta is a wolfsburg edition, but from Mexico.  Oh well...

And I absolutely concur with the Polo.  I would buy a Polo TDI tomorrow.
