Hey, I didn't say black only.
Why does the black Macbook cost more? WHY!!??
Synthetic scarcity. Just a way to squeeze a few extra bucks out of people.
Apple knows that historically white electronics have been much less popular than black. So charge more for black.

Sad but true. But they wouldn't offer it if people wouldn't pay it.
Also, I'd like to say that I agree with the MacBook nano rumor (that flash-based, small-screen companion machine).

Ah that time of the year. I'll start with the safe bets.
• Blue Ray option in the Mac Pro and maybe high end imac, MacBook Pros.
Probably true in the case of the Mac Pro, but doubtful for the iMac/MBP. A fast C2D paired with Apple's software h.264 decoder is fine for lower-bitrate h.264 in 1080p, and it'll easily handle MPEG 2 in 1080p at any bitrate. But it'll choke on 40mbps h.264, so Apple would not be able to guarantee compatibility with all movies. Apple could address this with an efficient software decoder like coreavc (Apple's h.264 decoder is probably the worst one available), or if AMD/NVIDIA implemented GPU-assisted h.264 decoding in their drivers.
• If a thin MacBook turns up it will have a suitably GIANT power-brick.
No doubt.

Yeah, I think the cube's PSU was bigger than an entire mini.

Re: Macworld predictions: go on the record!
I think it will be safe to say that a Mini Laptop from Apple will have a PSU 50% the volume of the laptop and probably just as heavy. Sorry, but they still don't seem to get PSUs right in the first revision.

Re: Macworld predictions: go on the record!
I'm still more concerned with the problems loading software on such a without or with merely an optional optical drive particularly since as a few people pointed out such laptops are targeted at on-the-go business people. Those are the very people who would most need an optical drive to load software. They typical work with applications like FileMaker, MS Office and/or Adobe Acrobat which are large, typically too large to easily re-download or to store a backup on drive even assuming they can purchase as a digital download of all the apps they may need for their particular job. The apps are also typically costly enough that they want the installer on a relatively non-volatile storage medium (and actual mailed CD or a burned copy of the digital download).

I think it targets people who would have a Desktop and you do everything through that. If it happens, we'll find out.

How about both? Like in the patents, an iMac-looking dock with a screen in it, and a notebook that slides in and out of it.

Re: Macworld predictions: go on the record!
In theory a dock could be made, similar to how the iPods are done, for each Mac. The problem is the number of different docks required. I guess you would have to purchase them separately as they would be costly. Still, would be kind of nice. How do they propose to cool such a system, the current laptops just aren't designed to be operated when closed. Certainly would be nice for offices, Universities and people with mobile and desk needs.

I would expect Apple would provide a clone/sync utility so someone could just copy over their mission critical application instals from their main machine.

Re: Macworld predictions: go on the record!
That would be nice, but these are times that this mightn't be enough. Applications such as Adobe's Suit tend to embed themselves into the OS, preventing exactly that sort of backup. Short of a total clone, backups would be difficult. That said, Time Machine could fix that?

Re: Macworld predictions: go on the record!
That patent clearly shows an optical drive on the laptop itself, FutureDreamz. Even if they decided to move the optical drive to the dock, it would have to come as standard equipment with the ultraportable (not option for at least the very reason of OS & mainstream software installations).
reece_james only covers part of the issue, Pariah. No only that, a significant part of the market is not going to have that option as they might not have another Mac to support it. For some the ultraportable might be the only system they get and some the might be the initial Mac (complementing a desktop PC).
reece_james, Time Machine might help with recovery but not initial installation. Then the is the issue of the second drive requirement and its effect on portability.
Sure you could include that drive in the dock but that wouldn't help you on the road.

When I migrated my Mac from Tiger to Leopard I went from one HDD with Tiger on it to another with a fresh instal of Leopard and then used Migration assistant to sync everything up.
I was most impressed by how the sync preserved my Adobe registrations so they just worked. Really that operation, syncing from one drive to another is exactly the same as it would be going to another computer entirely.

It's very hit or miss that way, Pariah. Many people had no issues and many people had any number issues. Likewise when simply moving from one hardware set to another or when moving from one OS on one hardware set to another OS on another hardware set. Until Apple can guarantee it work almost every time it's not a solution. It's also not a solution if there is no other computer or no compatible computer to do it from.
