Apple gives you a 500gb in the main drive bay for only $100 more bucks, not a bad deal

Really??? You and I have different definitions of what constitutes a good deal then. For that $100 you are not getting a 500GB drive. You are getting 180GB of extra drive space. For just $109 at other world computing you can get an EXTRA 500GB hard drive instead. So I'd say that's is in fact a bad deal at the Apple store. That same drive would cost you $250 at the Apple store. For $239 you can get a 750GB drive or for $280 you can get a 1TB drive from OWC. Heck, for less than it would cost you to upgrade that first drive to 500GB and add one more 500GB drive you could keep your 320GB and add 3 500GB drives to the mix.

Frank

hence I specifically said the main drive, you're stuck with getting something in there, granted you could get an external SATA case, pull out whatever you get from apple and slap in whatever you want.  I got three 320s for $60 each so I'm happy hmm (plus the now 320 standard coming with it)

can't complain too much, it's probably part of why Mac upgrade sellers are strong, they fill the gap.  I'm very pleased with OWC myself, I'll be ordering ram from them when they catch up with the 800mhz PCI2.0

Huh?  They already have the 800Mhz RAM for the new MacPro.  BTW PCIx2.0 has nothing to do with RAM.  The RAM is FB-DIMM DDR.

my bad, dunno why my brain grabbed the PCI 2 >.<

I didn't see it there, but didn't look hard

Anyone know if Apple has fixed the bus/memory speed problem?  when they first brought out the 8-core it didn't run much faster than the quad's when dealing with memory use

ok they just today or yesterday added the Ram at OWC (at least on the main Mac Pro page).  Anyone know the main difference between the N ceritified and non Ram?

Re: New Mac Pro

According to Apple, the new 3.0 GHz Harpertown Xeon setup has 164% of the throughput that the old 3.0 GHz Clovertown Xeon setup did. We can only wait to see what that means to the consumer.

Re: New Mac Pro

So a questoion has popped up among my friends.  We know what you can do with 4 Terabytes, 8 cores, and a great graphics card.   But 32 gigs of ram?  Folding@Home anyone?

Re: New Mac Pro

So I'm wondering, while I did my best to order mine before Mac Expo hoping to avoid delays, of course the 8800 shortage pushed the ship date to feb 13,  will my order get pushed back even further once all the Mac Expo orders hit the store?  Or is that ship date semi-garunteed?  Much as it's a bit late now to settle for the ATI HD2600 and buy an 8800 when they're available.  Honestly if it means not waiting over a month I wouldn't mind paying the extra $100 since I make that in a week.  But with the Expo being upon us already, it probably won't speed things up now.

Re: New Mac Pro

back to the blueray vs hddvd debate ... I was in an adult book store today and there was one blueray title in the HD section but 10+ HDDVDs

just felt i should add that.

Dual 2.3Ghz G5 (4G Ram, 2x 250G HD)(10.5 server)--- 400Mhz G4 PM (10.4 Server)

Re: New Mac Pro

Well the porn industry did go that route but as some mainstream studios are showing the studios don't necessarily have to stay with a given format.
