Suckerfish, expanding box and custom borders problems

Hello!

I'm having a long list of IE problems with the site I'm working on. (Username is "spark", password is "holly".) Before I go tearing my hair out I thought I'd see if anyone can help. A few problems are going to be addressed next week so I won't talk about those (you'll see them on the site) but here's what I need some help on:

1) *EDIT* Son of Suckerfish drop-down menu issues
- the drop-down menu for the section the user is currently on disappears (one time it didn't, temporarily)

- drop-downs keep getting stuck: they won't go away on mouseoff and sometimes this results in more than one showing at once. yikes.

Code from HTML dog... I don't know what I did to screw it up.

--- #1 IS SOLVED ---

2) Expanding box problems
- Results > Case Studies page sub nav overflows. I've had a lot of difficulty getting this one to cooperate...

--- #2 IS kinda SOLVED: I gave up using the nowrap b/c it was messing up too much for what it is.

3) Expanding box / custom borders problems
- long pages overflow. maybe basic CSS I should have in my arsenal, but I don't usually have a problem... I may have a border area on the left to expand the area. Sorry it's been a couple months since I worked on structure.

--- #3 IS SOLVED ---

see later post for IE 6 corner issue.

Re: Suckerfish, expanding box and custom borders problems

Could it be your browser with the problems? I just checked your site and didn't find anything like the problems you mentitoned.

Oh spoke too soon. I see that the overflow does occur.

Re: Suckerfish, expanding box and custom borders problems

Sorry I forgot to be specific. These are IE7 and possibly IE6 problems. I'll edit my post.

And it is, for the record, occurring on two different machines smile One in XP and one in Vista.

Did you try it in FireFox yet?

IE has idiocyncrasies with CSS.

The page seems to jiggle when you move  from page to page?

That's what I thought... I think I got in the habit of using IE 6 on our studio PC for quick testing, maybe because one expects IE 7 to be BETTER!

Yes, that, too... I used this method from 456 Berea St and it seems like Safari doesn't cache the images or something. Annoying as hell but at least the bulk of the target audience is PC users... Stats so far reflect that.

Kidnap the IE development team and "reeducate" them to write better code?
lol

Haha, ahem... Microsoft's IE development team?

The programmers are split up into abut 10-100 teams, each focused on a specific item lick core, UI, IE, eta. this is great for cutting down time in the team, but leads to lack of communication between the difrent areas, leading to the "lowest common denominator" syndrome seen in Vista and, well, everything else Microsoft (and leading to poor quality stuff the first time around like the XBOX 360, but my old original works fine so confused ).

Re: Suckerfish, expanding box and custom borders problems

Yikes.

We went through 3 or 4 XBOX 360s. The old original one my boyfriend's gramps had eventually croaked from old age. I wonder if MS loses money when a good chunk of their products don't work?

On the bright side I think that only the Mac BU has been working on Office 08 (they may have originally tried to copy the office 07 UI, but I think they are coding everything themselves), so we shouldn't have to worry about that, especially with the unfortunate loss of macros.

there is probably only one team, called the Mac Buisness Unit, working on the Mac version of apps, leading to higher efficiency and communication between the guy doing the main coding, the guy doing the User Interface eta compared to different teams doing each job.

IE6 isn't under active development anymore, any problems with your site you'll need to work around them somehow

I was referring to the problems with Office 07. Or Office 08, I'm not sure which version has been getting flack. Obviously IE6 isn't under active development. I know that wink I'm looking for a workaround! And running out of time here.

Isn't the solution always simple? I think I cleaned up my site architecture by moving the suckerfish.js file into the JS folder but didn't update my files to reflect that. I only figured it out by noticing IE 6 buggering up except on a specific page. As for IE7, it's flawless 99% of the time. Five minutes ago it got stuck but I think it's ok now. Alternatively without the suckerfish JS file referring properly, I managed to fix the disappearance issue in IE 7 by applying position: relative to the #nav li:hover ul, and then width definitions for each of the 3 menu items.

Overflowing content problem solved! The Custom Borders script generates a div to which I applied the container div's styles, plus some generous padding on the bottom. I took off the excess padding of the text's div.

***IE 6: the bottom right hand corner custom border isn't lining up (something may be pushing it out horizontally) which is my last problem and I can't figure it out thus far. Anyone?
