Best Historic Districts in North America?
I'm going to school in montreal, and I find old montreal to be quite a rediculous place. Some buildings date from the 17th C.
These features of cities usually aren't promoted that heavily in comparison to other traits, so I'm just wondering if anyone else knows of any other good historical districts.
i guess museum towns like colonial williamsburg count too

Old Salem in Winston-Salem, NC.
I worked there for a while. Williamsburg was considered a step-up (much larger operation).

What kind of historical do you want?
I still believe in liberalism today as much as I ever did, but, oh, there was a happy time when I believed in liberals.

Old Quebec City oozes early European settlement historical stuff.
when surrounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
and the women come out to cut up what remains,
just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,
and go to your god like a soldier...

The French were the first to colonize North America, so Quebec is the oldest, period.
if you want slightly younger places, than stick to the east.
Or fly down to Mexico and visit the Aztec temples.

I live in CA, we have no history here.
It is an odd thing, but every one who disappears is said to be seen at San Francisco. It must be a delightful city, and possess all the attractions of the next world.

Athabasca, Originally called Athabasca Landing, got it's name from the Athabasca river, which got it's name from lake Athabasca, which got it's name from the Athabasca Delta, which was named by the Cree as thap-āsk-ā-w (grass or reeds here and there). There are no reeds outside of the delta.
Athabasca Landing was built in 1880 (it predates the railway), was renamed to just Athabasca in 1913. And since i'm getting tired I'll just summarizes this: It's purpose was to prevent the American Whisky traders from exploiting the natives, that didn't work, had a great fire that destroyed the whole town, great golf park, beautiful scenery, had a chance of becoming the Capital of Alberta, if it wasn't for the fire.

I remember by 9th grade history book - named some guy as the first person to see the Pacific Ocean from New World Soil.
The History teacher made some remark that he curious as to why the Indians were scared to look west.

Eucalyptus groves planted in an attempt to conceal bomb factories from the air.
We've got a lot of history here.

I wasn't crackin' on you.
Oraibi has been continuously inhabited since it's founding. That's remarkable.

btw - while they seem to have been extinct by the time europeans got here, there is evidence of bonafide cities in south america, complete with irrigation bringing water to them.

Boston has a fairly nice historic district, IIRC. It's been... sheesh, over a decade since I was there last.
Same with Montreal.
More recently I've been to San Juan, Puerto Rico; it's far ol

More recently I've been to San Juan, Puerto Rico; it's far older than any of the historic districts we've got on the continent - unless you count Jamestown, which I've been to and don't count. It's an archaeological site, not a town.
There is a lot of decay there, but it seems to be coming up again. I had fun there.
(I'd be more specific, but I've been to Cartegenia, Columbia more recently. It's another walled city, and it's kind of eclipsing my recollection of San Juan. It's not in North America, so...)
