Dear everybody, who uses mac, tell, please, is it a truth?

I've read on the site of apple "If you spend more of your precious time figuring out why your PC crashes than you spend taking out the garbage every week, you need a Mac. Still not convinced? Just ask the millions of people who use and love a Mac why it’s become such an integral part of their lives, and most will tell you the same thing: It just works. Letting them do what they want to do. When they want to do it. All the time."
I wanner be convinced... Is mac really so nice from each side? I have problems with PC. It always crashes, I must take out the garbage every week... And mac? Always works? Difficult to believe.. It sounds like a fairy-tale...

Re: Dear everybody, who uses mac, tell, please, is it a truth?

Nothing always works. No computer will ever have 100% uptime.

But, from my experience, the mac is far more stable and easy choice. Since I purchased my iMac, I've probably had a total of 3 or 4 kernal panics (system crashes on a mac). I think that's a pretty good track record.

Perfect? no. But yeah, I'd say it "just works."

Macintosh does have it's short coming and annoyances, they're just a hell of a lot less of them and they are easier to deal with then the ones in Windows.

Re: Dear everybody, who uses mac, tell, please, is it a truth?

I've had the same experience with NT/XP and OS X. I've never had the OS crash. I've had apps lock up or crash, but they didn't bring down the whole system. There is periodic maintenance that should be done with any system.

I will say that installing apps is much easier on the Mac. As is using peripherals. Installing our new printer was a snap under OS X, it was a PITA under Windows. I tried Vista and drivers were a nightmare. This will get better as drivers mature, but stuff tends to just work on the Mac.

Hm, thank you...
I think, mac is like a son for windows... Not a rival! Do you think so? It's like my grandma who don't know how to use windows. The people who don't get into the habit of doing some-thing new, will use windows. But I love studying new things and I want to buy mac...
On the same site I've read about the possibility to put windows on it. Do you think is it necessary? http://www.apple.com/getamac/windows.html

If you want to migrate from PC to Mac, I'd call this optional, but not necessary:)
I also migrated to Macs from PC and I'm pretty happy with what I am now. I had an option to run Windows in Boot Camp and Parallels and this combo suits me well.
Oh, just to make it clear: Boot Camp is an app in Mac OS that lets you boot into Windows like you are sitting in front of a PC (just like they say it in videos Mac vs/ PC that are located on the page you posted a link to).
Parallels lets run Windows simultaneously with Mac OS.
I have lots of Windows-aps that I used on my PC. I don't buy Mac equivalents and continue to use the same MS Office, outlook, IE in Parallels.
Many people stand against the idea of running Windows on a Mac, so be ready to defend yourself, setta!lol

[edit] I forgot to mention Fusion, this is an app that works absolutely like Parallels Desktop. I'm not using it, that's why I can't tell you much about it

If you want to use a family analogy look at it this way:
The Mac would be a good child always works hard and helps when ever possible. He generally gets good grades but every so often gets into a little trouble.
Windows on the other hand, is the smurfed up older stepchild who screws off everyday and is always messing up. But because the older child is more well known, (because of age and because he acts up) ...  mac always must be compared to it.

mac the son of windows ... yeah NO

Yeah, the mac os is hardly derived from Windows. If anything OS X is the son of NeXT.

Re: Dear everybody, who uses mac, tell, please, is it a truth?

I've been running a game on my iMac by booting into Windows XP. I get a BSOD about every other time. I've yet to get a crash while booted into OSX during the same time period.

Another cute thing about XP is the assumption that you have (and need) an expert that you can call to solve your computer problems. And don't get me started on those annoying pop-up balloons that eagerly tell you stuff that you already know.

Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.

Yeah, it is kind of like Windows is congratulating itself for noticing you plugged in a USB device. As if it working is a special event.

Brother analogy might work except for one thing, it wouldn't even be the younger brother. The Mac system software actually predates Windows 1.0 by about 22 months.

On another note, recently I've had issues on a few occasions now when scrolling in Safari using the arrow keys where my MacBook Pro will become unresponsive. The pointer disappears, I can't force quit Safari, the Finder, or even bring up the option to do so, and need to do a force restart by holding down the power button. (Yes, I do run Cocktail routinely.) So OSX , like any software, especially after a major upgrade (Leopard), can have issues that bring the entire system to it's knees no matter what Apple claims. I sure as hell hope 10.5.2 fixes this issue I'm having, as rare as it may be.

Nevertheless, I use Windows XP and prior 2000 at work so I have plenty of experience with Windows and OSX. That being said, I find OSX more reliable, and just as important, just more intuitive. It's just a MUCH MORE pleasurable experience working on a Mac, a different more positive vibe if you will.

That would be why I don't use Safari...

Re: Dear everybody, who uses mac, tell, please, is it a truth?

My wife bought herself a laptop, running Vista 3 weeks ago, and in it's FIRST week and with a fresh, new CLEAN install, it crashed more often than my 1.4 Ghz upgraded Quicksilver has in it's lifetime.

She then ran Norton Utilities (yah, I know, bad idea, but I wasnt around to stop her) to help her recover from what seemed like a "dark grey screen of death" and noticed Norton scanning 3,900+ startup items.... eek

We also love the fact that Vista will not work properly on anything less than 1 gig of ram for the OS alone!!!  eek

Made me appreciate my old but stable Mac even more.....

Actually, you are wrong. If you include the Lisa, it's 2 years 10 months. I base this on the following:
    Lisa: January 1983
    Macintosh: January 1984
    Windows 1.0: November 1985

Re: Dear everybody, who uses mac, tell, please, is it a truth?

I'm a Windows gamer/Mac user, and I agree that "just works" is pretty accurate summation of the Mac experience.  I haven't had trouble with either OS crashing, but Windows involves a lot of maintenance to keep everything running smoothly.  The Mac "just works."  I also find working in the Mac UI much more efficient (even pleasurable).

Go to any decent magazine rack, and take a good look at the covers.  Notice that every Windows/PC magazine has tons of ways to repair and/or fix and/or clean your PC, yada yada...

The Mac magazines are loaded with articles on how to do things - usually creative, but still!  I love Macs!

setta, just buy the Mac (you know you want to). I will guarantee that you use Windows less and less everyday.

Mac OS X > Windows XP
My mac has given me trouble, but nothing, I mean nothing compared to the PC.  My mac is especially good for being safe online.  I don't have trouble downloading random software programs which advertise something.  I can click on any website w/o worrying, and now macs have the "cool" appeal to them.

Plus, if I ever do need windows, I just have to restart.

Re: Dear everybody, who uses mac, tell, please, is it a truth?

If you take out the 100% part, then it's true.  As everyone has already said, nothing is perfect, and there are a few issues here and there, but, again, as everyone has said, it's nothing compared to the configurations and scanning and the rebooting you have to do with PCs.  I used to work as a PC guy, and still consider myself as a PC enthusiast (for particular games), but I've been recommending the mac to many and many of my friends.  It really is a lot easier to work with, and will give less headaches (especially for me!  I don't need to fix stuff as often ;-) ).  This article might help:
