Re: Dear everybody, who uses mac, tell, please, is it a truth?
In '93 I bought my first Mac, a Preforma 476, 68LC040, 12"monitor, 4mb ram, 270 kb HD, a 4x CD drive, a Apple B&W printer, and OS 7.1, with a keyboard and one button mouse, and a bundle of software.
It came with a User Manual, that taught you something. I was a complete novice, unpacked it, plug it all together, and turned it on. Then by the book, and the tutorials, actually learned something. It just worked, even an eight year old, could learn on an Apple computer. By the time OS 8.0 came out, I was ready for a B&W G3, and It just worked on all app's, games, etc. and up to OS 8.6, when OS 9.1, the G3 chugged along. (It needed a power supply, went through two 17" studio displays ) and is still going strong on OS 9.2.2, with it's app's, and GAMES.
When OS X came out, I upgraded to the first gen. G5's, a dual 2.0 GHz, 4GB ram, a 260 GB HD, ( now 1.2 TB HD's ) and 8GB ram, a 19"blue LaCie monitor. Three printers, and I'm still using OS 10.3.9, for my classic GAMES, and app's. An upgrade to an Intel Mac, is not on my mind any time soon. Because my Mac works for me, the only down time I've had so far with the G5, was for a new power supply. All my computers still work!! That means I do too! The savings alone in no repairs, and down time, means more games, and software, that only a Mac user can boast about. All Mac users have problems at one time or another, that are easy to work out, or solve in less time than a PC, or windows. AMEN ! to Mac's

Almost two years ago I bought my wife the cheapest PC I could find. An eMachine.
I would say since I bought that thing I have spent maybe 2 hours messing with it. Two hours in 2 years.
Just sayin

No, the original OEM XP install.

Why not? They fall right in the mainstream as far as QOC and failure rates go.
Two years ago I spent $325 and got a PentD@3.06ghz, 512 ram, 80 gig HDD and a DVD/CD burner with about a billion USB posts and an open full speed PCIe slot.
That strikes me as a pretty good value and like I said, its been solid as a rock reliability-wise. Two years without an OS re-instal, not bad.

Well, I'm sure every computer maker has flukes, in both hardware and support. eMachines just happened to strike out in both areas.
We had the computer a year, and had quite a few niggling issues with it. Nothing big, but stuff that should generally just work. A guy I work for gave me a copy of Win XP Pro, so I figured I'd install it and mess around. That was on a thursday or friday.
Three days later, I was at my wits end. The machine never did make through a full install, crashing partway thru. I couldn't get the old OS (XP Home) installed either, for the same reason. I called tech support, and they came right out and said..."we don't know."
We probably could have pressed the issue, but the thing gave us trouble a lot. My parents are not computer users, or at least, they don't know much about them, so small problems are amplified to them. My mom likes to watch the news on the websites of CNN and stuff like that. For some reason that I never could figure out, Flash only worked once and a while on the computer.
Anyway, long story short, we used my computer (iMac) to order an iMac, and she's been doing fine ever since.
In the summers, I work for a computer repair shop (same guy who gave me XP pro). 70% of the computers that come in for repair are eMachines, with bad power supplies, dying hard drives, bad RAM, and so on. They are usually fairly new. Normally I would say that it's probably a fluke or a user screwed something up. But the amount of eMachines that come in is so high, I kind of doubt it.
The number of Dells that come in is miniscule, and it's almost never hardware problems either. It's usually spyware and the like. If I ever buy a PC, it'll be a Dell, and I'll pay a little bit more.

Re: Dear everybody, who uses mac, tell, please, is it a truth?
The way I look at it is a $325 computer is disposable. If that thing puked and died tomorrow I would feel I got more than my monies worth out of it and I'd strip out the guts that were still good and march on down to Wal-Mart and buy another one.
Strikes me that unless you are planning on spending at least $800 on a PC you might as well just buy as cheap as possible because the $400-$700 range just doesn't offer all that much more.
I bought this thing expecting trouble and got none so I am a happy camper. I have never called customer support on any computer I have owned in my entire life so I never even consider the quality or lack thereof when I buy one.
If I cant fix something myself or with the help of people in tech forums it is extremely unlikely some CS dork is going to be able to do better.

Typically "Windows Machine" means that it was a PC, not an emulated or virtualized Windows install.
