safari plug-in problem

I'm just full of questions lately.  Sorry, I can't seem to find the answers anywhere..

My husband has an ibook g4 and starting today he started having problems with safari.  Yesterday I went on his computer and checked the privacy settings but I'm pretty sure I didn't change anything from how it was except his wifi network preferences.

Anyway, when he tries to go on myspace, safari quits.  It lets him log in and then when the page is about 90% loaded it quits.  I played around with it a lot today trying different things and in all my trials with the settings as it was it would either do that where it just quits or it would seem to stop responding - I could click on things but nothing would load properly and I would have to close safari myself.

When I played with the preferences, I found that unchecking the box in the security section that says "enable plug-ins" would allow things to work normally again.  However, when I do that then certain other pages in his bookmarks that use flash won't load those parts of the page (I guess because plug-ins are turned off, duh).  Thus presents the problem - disable the plug-ins so he can use myspace or enable them to see the flash pages.  I know he could switch back and forth but that is a pain and it never did it before so I don't know why it just started.

He has an older version of safari so could upgrading to the new safari 3 version help?

I did copy the error report log that comes up when safari quits but I'm not sure if I should post it because I have no idea what is in there (like personal info, don't laugh, I seriously have no clue).  If there is something specific that I can look for in there that will point to why this is happening please let me know.

Thanks in advance for any info!!!

Re: safari plug-in problem

I had a similar problem, except the website that I could not load was YouTube. I could play embedded YouTube videos on other sites, but every time I tried to go to YouTube itself or to any specific video within YouTube, Safari would either hang at about 80% in the page download or would crash. These problems would happen without coinciding with any setting changes I've made to Safari.

I found that my problem was due to some corruption in the com.apple.safari.plist file which is found (I think--not at my Mac at the moment) in {username}> Library> Preferences. Trashing this file means that you do lose things like the current Safari window location and some of the Preferences settings, but you will not lose bookmarks and such. You might experiment by moving the plist file out of the Preferences folder and see if this fixes your husband's MySpace problem--if not, then he can copy the old plist file over the newly created one in the Preferences folder.

Re: safari plug-in problem

I log into myspace everyday with WebKit (basically Safari) and haven't had a crash yet.
