Re: Apple upgrades iPhone and iPod Touch
Man, that makes me want to upgrade from my 8 gig iPhone. But I still have around 4 gigs left on my iPhone, so I will wait until I am desperate for space. It's good news that an update happened though. Keeps the competition on their heels.

Re: Apple upgrades iPhone and iPod Touch
I'm just glad they didn't place the 16 and 32 GB into the $399 price slots in place of the 8 and 16 GB models. I would have cried after getting a 16 GB iPod Touch recently.

Re: Apple upgrades iPhone and iPod Touch
I'm pretty excited about the update. I'm planning on getting an iPhone in July or August when my current cell phone contract expires. I'm crossing my fingers that the 16GB iPhone will be reduced in price or have a 3G version available at that time.

Isn't there some kind of 10-day return thingy with Apple?

Re: Apple upgrades iPhone and iPod Touch
I never thought I would say this, but I am actually pretty content with my 16gb Touch. I have 1000 songs, 35 videos including 4 full length movies, and 170 photos. I have a nice collection of additional apps from Jailbreaking that have really made the Touch a great device for me. I still have a little more than 4.5gb left, too. At this point, more storage space would actually be a security blanket and not a need. Odd, since I am coming off a 60gb iPod video.

Update
Just got back from the AppleStore. I have 14 days to upgrade by paying just the $100 price difference. And this despite having opened and activated the phone. Evidently it's a Genius Bar procedure, so I think they open both phones and move the activated sim card over.
None of the new phones in the store yet, so I'll have to go back tomorrow. I think I will, though: nice to have almost all my music on hand, without having to carry around an iPod as well as a phone.

Re: Apple upgrades iPhone and iPod Touch
That's nice that they are doing the "exchange" program as you mentioned, henebry. The immediate thought that went through my head this morning when I saw the updates was that of wondering what people, who have recently bought one of these devices, can do if they want the upgraded device.

Now all I need to do is wait for my 30 gig iPod Photo to die, so I can replace it with a 32 gig touch - actually gain 2 gigs to boot.

I never thought people would get used to and then hope for iPods to die.

Re: Apple upgrades iPhone and iPod Touch
Very interesting updates in that they are nice storage updates but this is the first time that I can remember that Apple has updated something in the iPod line by adding storage without remaining at the same price point.
Can anyone else think of the last time they have increased the storage AND increased the price at the same time?
The 32GB iPod touch is very tempting but I think I will be able to resist temptation with the $499 price tag. Interesting though.

They didn't increase the price. The previous capacity models cost exactly the same as they used to, they just added a new capacity at the top end of the spectrum.

Perhaps I didn't word that as clearly as I could have. However, in the context of my entire post what it meant was that in the past they had a top end price for a model and when they released a higher capacity model it retained the top end price.
For example:
iPod nano 4GB $249 becomes iPod nano 8GB for $249. The 4GB then became $199.
There is a consistent pattern of Apple doing this with their entire product line. What I was asking is if anyone could remember them doing what they did today:
Release a higher capacity model along with a new top end price...

I've been waiting for my 10GB 3G iPod to die for years... That sucker just keeps going! With 6 hours of battery life, too!

This will make a lot of people seriously consider the touch, good move Apple. On the other had I could use a 16GB iPhone, my 8GB says 0 bytes available on the about screen.

Re: Apple upgrades iPhone and iPod Touch
According to a story on macnn.com, there are some issues that some are experiencing with upgrading from an 8GB to a 16GB phone. Possible 2 year contract extension when upgrading due to moving over the sim card to the new phone. Apparently Apple Store employees and AT&T employees are sending contradicting messages to customers who are upgrading their iPhones to the new models. Has anyone heard more about this or experienced it?
