That's entire idea behind RENTING it.  It's just like a rental from Blockbuster, you have to be done with it within a certain period of time (or did before the whole "no late fee" thing).  While everything is available on P2P, that isn't legal, and that's not about to change.

But when you rent from blockbuster, you have 2 days for new releases and 7 days for not so new - not 24 hours from when you hit play.

I regularly pause movies, even movies I rent, and don't finish them in one sitting - many people do the same. If you don't have a solid block of time to watch the entire thing start to finish first sitting, that's going to happen.

The 24 hour thing is stupid too. It should be at least 3 days if not a week, and there should be no restriction on how long you have the file before you start to watch it.

finally, something we can agree about in regards to this.

I think it kinda sucks as well but it's far better than what the cable company does (24 hours from when you order it whether you start it or not).

Re: HD-DVD is dead: OFFICIAL

Here's a funny (yet sad) HD DVD-related story.

I know someone who lives in a dorm as a residence hall supervisor at a small religious university. There's this one guy in this dorm who bought an LCD HDTV... but he was then mad that the Comcastic cable service offered in the dorms didn't offer HD programming and that the school's contract with Comcast won't let them add an HD box for his precious dorm room. Even worse, the dorm room walls are so thick that an antenna wouldn't work.

So to "solve" the problem, he then bought a Toshiba HD DVD player and a bunch of HD DVD movies at $25+ a pop. And guess what... now he doesn't have enough money for a computer, and his format of choice is obsolete! eek  His solution? Turns out he's going to the computer labs on campus, and when the computer labs are closed, he asks others in the dorm to use their computers.

I feel sorry for him... I almost want to be a good samaritan and give him an old Dell that we have lying around in our house (and install a new hard drive and Ubuntu on it) so he can have a computer.

You can agree with Woz, too. There are several recent Appley things he doesn't like.

But Wozniak's rant, at a press conference following his keynote speech at the Broadband and Beyond Conference, didn't end with Iphone. Wozniak had plenty of criticism for the MacBook Air, agreeing with critics that the lack of a DVD drive, missing Ethernet networking port, relatively small 80GB hard drive and the inability to swap the battery, were just too irritating. Wozniak admitted that he liked to burn DVDs for his mates and watch battery sapping films on his laptop during long flights, and summed up his thoughts on the MacBook air as, "I don't think it's going to be a hit".

Apple TV didn't emerge unscathed either. Wozniak criticised both the quality of YouTube videos played on it and the strict 24-hour time limit on rentals, noting, "My life is way too global and unpredictable for that [24-hour time limit] - I'll get interrupted by something and I won't finish it; I don't want to have to pay again". µ

The Woz does not "Rant". It's not his style.

A minor quibble about word choice.

There are links if you wish greater length or other characterizations.
