Just got my PB 1400

I have a few questions:

I can't figure out how to get the ethernet working (it has an ethernet port). When I go into TCP/IP in OS 8 it says "the previously selected option ethernet is no longer available". I can't get appleshare to start in the chooser either.

And, whenever I plug in the computer, it always starts up immediately. How do I not have this happen? I want to plug it in, and then press the power key to start it up.

Re: Just got my PB 1400

A PowerBook 1400 doesn't come with ethernet as standard equipment. If you have an Ethernet card in it, you'll need a driver for it.

As for the power issue, try resetting the power manager. The procedure should be outlined in Apple's service documentation (available at support.apple.com).

Re: Just got my PB 1400

I had a PB 1400 a long time ago and it used to do stuff like that. There might be a Ethernet or Network control panel that needs to be set to see that card. Check all your control panel settings.

Based on the findings of the report, my conclusion was that this idea was not a practical deterrent for reasons which at this moment must be all too obvious.
