A request for prayers may be too much to ask...
...but I will request whatever good vibes you believe in.
There is a young family in my church who is facing unbelievable hardship. Five years ago they bore twins, incredibly premature. Years, and many bills, later, the twins are doing as well as they can, though they both face developmental delays.
About a year ago, the father was diagnosed with colon cancer. He had numerous operations, and all appeared well... Until very recently.
It seems his cancer has come back, and has spread to his liver and his lymphatic system. He has been moved to hospice, which, if you know anything about such matters, means he does not have long. The last report I heard was it will be a matter of days. He is down to about 70 pounds, and is not doing well at all.
He is 36. His wife is 35. His two sons are five.
Please, if you can find it within yourself to do so, send whatever well wishes you can into the ether for this family. His fate is, sadly, written in stone. But his survivors will need everything they can get just to keep their heads afloat in this sea of misery. Their name is Wilcox, but I doubt knowing the exact name will matter. Whatever power, if any, in which you believe will know all too well for whom your thoughts are sent.
Thank you.

Well unless you are going to send some, well wishes can at least be passed their way. No?

My mom died of cancer. I'd send 'em money. OTOH, maybe they're not looking for a handout. I don't mean to heckle.

I've found that people interested in technology tend to believe more in logic and less in spirituality. Science is funny that way.
I will send along my best wishes to your Wilcox family.

You certainly have my prayers for the Wilcoxes. You know the story of everyone coming out to pray for rain but only one person bringing an umbrella? I truly believe that God will hear our prayers for this family and that the father will be able to help his wife and children in ways he never could while in bodily form. Peace will come.

I don't really mean to be a hard-ass but I have seen lots of similar threads and it seems like the folks in this difficult situation do need real help and support.

We can't send money if they don't have a paypal account.
Sure you can.
You are welcome to send whatever funds (if any) you wish to:
First Presbyterian Church
620 State Street
Knoxville, TN 37902
Put "Wilcox Family Benefit" on the memo line.
If you'd like you can also send a letter asking that the funds be returned to you (or the check not be cashed) if it is not used for the Wilcox family. Or you can write something to that effect below the endorsement line on the back of the check, if you desire whatever added protection this offers (it would be nice if there were a specific account to reference, thus adding legal protection, but I do not know of one--if I find otherwise I will amend these comments).
I only mention this because of the above-quoted text. My original request was, and still is, for thoughts and prayers for this man and his family. And I humbly thank those of you who were willing to provide them, and continue to do so.
But if the naysayers want to put their money where their mouths/fingers are, I'm sure the family could use it. And I know my church will make sure it gets to them.

Re: A request for prayers may be too much to ask...
When Israelites walked through the desert they wondered if God had given up on them. What a foolish thing to ask people to walk through a desert without water. God hearing His people's cries told Moses to strike the rock with his staff and water would flow for the people.
True we don't understand how prayers work, if they are nothing more than everyone willing the same outcome at the same time, or if there truly is a divine intervention. God does not always give people what they want when they want it. We don't know why, but He doesn't When we walk through a desert we must trust in God that He will offer us a drink of water when we need it most. The more people praying the more likely He is to hear us, and our prayers get answered. Even if they are not answered in the way we want.

Re: A request for prayers may be too much to ask...
Most likely in this situation what those folks need is some emotional comfort in their difficult time and if they are religious, knowing that strangers are praying/goodvibing for them might provide that comfort.
However, I'm glad that their physical needs are being addressed as well.

VegasACF, I'm so sad for your friends. I wish them the best and I prayed for them. It's really kind that you are seeking to support them however you can, physical or metaphysical. Thanks.

This thread wasn't created to discuss religion.
And Mini-Thunk never attempts to do anything productive.
Apparently this thread is an anomaly.

OK, now I get it. Kind of complicated piecing the two threads together to figure the whole thing out.

Just a note. Mr. Wilcox died yesterday. May he rest in peace. And may his family find the strength it needs.
