Well, if you're going to do nothing, anyway, you might as well make yourself feel good about it.

If you don't believe in the spiritual there's no need to heckle those those who do.

I don't really mean to be a hard-ass but I have seen lots of similar threads and it seems like the folks in this difficult situation do need real help and support.

I wasn't asking for money, I was asking for prayers/good vibes.

We had a silent auction on Sunday for the family and raised nearly $10,000 for them in a couple hours.  Probably only a drop in the bucket, but at least it's a drop.  Far more than you're offering.

If ever your loved ones make a request for prayers for you or your family, don't worry, I will make a point to not remember your callousness today.  I'll gladly keep you in my thoughts.

Thanks for your contribution.

Actually, you're both being pigheaded.

But like I always say; the biggest problem with christianity is christians, and the biggest problem with athiesm is athiests.

Happy?

Is that directed toward me?

I only hope my two mites amounts to some comfort for this family.

It's amazing the leverage we think we have when others' cheeks we try to turn.  I am only capable to turning my own.  And I do so by handling ignominies by giving to the ignominious a place to which s/he can send monetary funds, if that is his/her goal.  But, again, my request was solely for thoughts/prayers/good vibes to this family.

If someone wants to give more than thoughts/prayers I provided an avenue through which to do so.  If that is not to one's liking, an avenue has been provided to get funds to the family in need.  Whatever is left will be taken care of, I assure you.  This family will not be left to fend for itself.

Amazing that a request for "good vibes" can be so twisted.

If you can give your good thoughts, please do so.  If you wish to give more, there's an address.  But that would go above and beyond my request.  I reckon it would not be unwelcome, but would be unexpected.

Give what you can, be it physical or metaphysical.

Whatever you have to give will be most welcomed, I assure you.

I am still amazed at the antipathy that rises up when anything having to do with Christianity or religion comes up on this forum. ( I shouldn't be) It  seem to me that it would be easier to ignore a thread that doesn't involve you.
The Wilcox family has our prayers - to God - The God of the Christian faith.

Re: Concentrated assholiness from the prayer thread.

Do prayers have to work exactly how christians say they work? Perhaps a mass consciousness thinking about the same thing is enough. At the very least they have a calming and reassuring effect. Until we are advanced enough to the point where we understand the world beyond the current concept of "physical", we have religion to keep people from feeling like life is pointless. I don't think we as a civilization are ready for a Total Perspective Vortex just yet.

Anyways...
Even though I do believe that there are millions that are as bad or worse off and we're just choosing the proverbial homeless kid over millions dying of starvation, the world would be a better place if people would give a little kindness to one person at a time.
So good thoughts and hopes for the family and may the father pass in peace.

There are those who believe that - there have been quite a few late night radio shows about that.

As far as how christians say they work, not sure we (er, at least my branch) even claim to remotely know how they work.

I don't enter into Ministry of Free Thought for a reason ... and yet sitting there in Unplugged ... Jesus Christ his god damned self... or at least request to speak to him... I will have to remember this thread when I am sitting on the toilet, because that is the closest I will ever be to giving a smurf about god. I have been around soooo many family members who suffered for years and then died of cancer ... if I ever get cancer I will want people to wish me a soon and painless death. big_smile

Re: Concentrated assholiness from the prayer thread.

I have to say, I'm disappointed. All Vegas is asking for is well wishes or whatever you believe in. It's a real shame that we apparently can't handle that simple request without trading barbs about religion and god.

Once again, praying for them, and maybe you can keep us updated on what's going on, if you feel it's appropriate.

Maybe I'm a naive idiot, but I will always have faith that God hears us.
